IRON FIST Star Finn Jones Hopes To Return As Danny Rand So He Can Prove The Doubters Wrong

Iron Fist star Finn Jones has talked more about his interest in reprising the role of Danny Rand in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, explaining that it would be a good chance to prove the doubters wrong...

Iron Fist struggled from the start, and despite a vastly better second season, the Netflix series never really managed to live up to fan expectations. As a result, news of its cancellation on the streaming service didn't come as too much of a blow, though Danny Rand actor Finn Jones remains keen to reprise the role.

Talking to Geekscape Podcast, the actor was asked if he would be open to returning as Iron Fist.

As you might expect, he's on board with the idea following in the footsteps of Charlie Cox, another Netflix actor who made his Daredevil return in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

"Of course I would [return]. I'd love another chance," the actor said. "I care about [Danny Rand] deeply. I believe in that character, I believe there is a lot of work that can be done...I love the ability to prove someone wrong. And I want to prove all those [doubters] wrong. I know I have it in me, and I know I can give the Danny Rand performance that fans want."

Jones would go on to share how he would like his return to play out, saying he'd like to star in a Heroes for Hire series alongside Mike Colter's Luke Cage. However, he hopes to see Jessica Henwick continue playing a Colleen Wing powered up with the Iron Fist, suggesting she could return in a future Shang-Chi movie.

"Over the course of seasons of television and films, you see [Danny, Luke and Colleen] come back together in a dynamic and real way," he noted. "It allows for Danny to have redemption. It allows for Colleen and Iron Fist to have her moment. For me, that makes the most creative sense. It's all there. The possibility is all there."

The actor is clearly a fan of this character, and we can't help but hope he might get another chance. It seems unlikely, especially with talk of an Asian actor being cast as the next Iron Fist. In recent comic books, Danny has passed the mantle to Lin Lie, with the original taking on the role of a mentor.

Is that something you'd like to see in the MCU?

I'm a doubter and I'm not wrong. He was the worst part of the show. Such a whiney doosh

@ProfessorWhy - I think that is more on the writing than his ability to play the part. I do get what you’re talking about, though. It even go to be a bit of a joke in The Defenders when he would proclaim that he was the Immortal Iron Fist.

@ProfessorWhy -

The show was terrible but it wasn’t his fault.

His character was written to by whiny and privileged from his wealth. That’s called character writing 101. He starts flawed just like Stark and Thor.

@HulkisHoly - the writing did no one favors, but he was the worst. He acted similarly in Game of thrones. He was the worst

Rand needs that Ryan Gosling chill kind of energy. This guy is too uptight and whiny.

At this point I don't care. They recasted Ross, some others, and some other not. There doesn't seem to be any rule to it, so they can bring in anyway as Rand.

That said, I hope we get Henwick back as Colleen. Far more interesting character.

I'd like to see his return, but at this rate I'm sure the MCU will just make Shang Chi Iron Fist.

I do believe it was more the scripts than the actor during the initial season of Iron Fist, but he did need a bit more work, no doubt. I believe he really showed his potential when his character and Luke Cage shared screen time together. They did seem to have good chemistry. I would like for him to have another chance just to see, but I have heard that they are going to pass the torch to another character, (Asian man) when the series return. Just a rumor at this point so take that for what it is, a rumor. Time will tell.

It’s not doubt. It is actual facts based on a performance and a crap show.

I mean he had, what 3? Goes at it. Sure the character was written like a complete moron but still. Ship has sailed

I'll be the optimist and say: I think he can do a good job.

His appearance in Luke Cage season 2 was actually pretty fun, and showed that Finn can do wonders if given the right material. Just keep him as this chill and lighthearted dude, and you've got a pretty good Iron Fist.

The Marvel Studios produced MCU content is better at that tone than the Netflix produced MCU content. So I wouldn't mind seeing him return.

I wouldn't mind him getting another shot with better writing (he was great in his Luke Cage guest appearance) but I also wouldn't be against a recast either if they got the right actor for the part.

One thing I'm not overly keen on is the idea going around that Iron Fist (or any Kung-Fu themed hero) HAS to be played by an Asian actor though; it seems like a really weird stereotype and feels quite limiting, like we've already got Shang-Chi who fits that role perfectly anyway so why not have some Asian heroes who aren't Kung-Fu themed, and have some Kung-Fu themed heroes who aren't Asian?

I do understand that there's a desire to avoid the "white saviour/white man taught mysticism by Asian mentor and then surpasses them" trope though and I definitely think that's something that needs to be addressed in the MCU's iteration of Iron Fist. Instead of having Danny become the best warrior in K'un-Lun, emphasize the fact that the monks saved him and he'd be nothing without what they taught him. Seeing as different versions of the story have K'un-Lun attacked or invaded, perhaps have Danny just get lucky when he survives. Hell maybe they could stray from the comics a bit and even have multiple Iron Fists with Danny just being one of them (maybe instead of literally punching the dragon to become Iron Fist, Shou-Lao teaches warriors in K'un-Lun to harness their Chi or gifts them their powers) and then they could have the new Asian Iron Fist from the comics as well (and even bring Colleen back and let her be an Iron Fist too)

So you could have Danny using his abilities as a Hero For Hire with Luke, Colleen as one of the Daughters of the Dragon, and Lin Lie as an Iron Fist who was actually born in K'un-Lun (I know he wasn't in the comics but still). Maybe even give Danny and Lin a surrogate brother dynamic having been raised and trained together since childhood, with Danny being less disciplined and more laid back, and Lin being a bit more focused and more of a natural leader, and then Colleen being new to all the Iron Fist stuff but much more familiar with the world outside of K'un-Lun which Danny hasn't experienced since childhood and which Lin has never known.

Sorry Finn, you had your chance. I’d rather get someone with a background in stunts and fight coordination.

I mean, he already had 2 seasons of his own show as well as Defenders to prove us wrong.
