IRONHEART Adds FARGO Star Anji White In Key Role; Big Update On Who Sacha Baron Cohen Is Playing

Ironheart has cast Anji White (Fargo) in a pivotal role in the upcoming Marvel Studios TV series, while we also have an update on who Sacha Baron Cohen is playing...and yes, it sounds positively devilish!

Deadline reports that Anji White will be a series regular in Marvel Studios' Ironheart. According to the trade, the actress will play Riri Williams' mom, Ronnie, in the six-episode Disney+ TV show.

We initially expected Ironheart to be released this year. However, with Disney scaling back its streaming slate and Marvel Studios getting back to quality over quantity now Bob Iger is back in charge of its parent company, it's instead slipped into 2024 alongside a number of other upcoming small screen MCU projects.

White joins a cast which includes Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Dominique Thorne as the title character, along with Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Paul Calderón, and Cree Summer.

Most of their roles are being kept under wraps, though we do know that Ramos is playing The Hood in a story which promises to pit science against magic.

In the same report, it's pointed out that Sacha Baron Cohen is likely playing Mephisto in Ironheart. Recently, it was rumoured that the demonic villain is the new owner of Avengers Tower and, for some reason, has a vested interest in technology.

Going back to White, and you might know the actress best for her roles in Fargo, Empire, Chicago P.D., and Hope Springs Eternal.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a solid introduction for Riri but by the time all was said and done, she'd been forced to leave her new suit in Shuri's home nation. However, even before then, we saw she had a penchant for building Iron Man suits.

The armours we've seen in set photos have a more homemade look to them, anyway, and it currently appears as if Tony Stark/Iron Man will have only a minor role in Riri's origin story (that could change, though, as Ehrenreich is thought to be playing Obidiah Stane's son).

As noted, Ironheart will premiere on Disney+ next year.

LOL.
Always Josh.

Everyone's known he is playing Mephisto for months.

Not really an 'update', buddy.

So it's true then. More Love and Thunder nonsense.

I know Cohen can and has done serious roles too, but do you really think that's why they hired him?

@ObserverIO - Yes.

I really wish they could stick close to her origins in the comics where it was Tony Stark's/Iron Man AI that along later with Pepper Potts who were her mentors and helped her when first starting out. I know that's impossible with the actors and contracts involved, but would have been nice and also help quell the usual B.S. about Marvel trying to completely replace Iron Man.

So magic vs tech angle will be interesting but it’s a show so the chi would probably be ass.

@TheSuperMex - i've seen or read some stuff where arcania and technology get mashed together...it was pretty cool...kind of like magic steampunk...i think sacha could totally play mephisto, so long as he doesn't go off the rails and be all corny and shit...tim curry played some great comedy characters, but then he turned around and played pennywise...i think sacha could do the same, given the right part and direction

@soupysales - I think Sacha can be a great Mephisto. Steampunk take would be awesome to see.

This is all trash, love and blunder was total dogshit and if it goes that way, so will this. I will not watch, because there is only 1 Iron man and his name is Tony stark, period. I will not let them replace him with a tertiary minor character. In the comics, stark always comes back and he is still around, they need to bring stark back in the MCU and drop this ironheart crap, mainstream dont know this character and it will flop. This has nothing to do with race. So many better stories to be told.

@cubichy - Just curious - Would you prefer they recast Tony Stark to continue his story opposed to “passing that baton” to a newer character?

@cubichy - I hope you aren't holding RDJ's decision not to play Tony Stark anymore against this totally unrelated TV show . . .

@cubichy - well she isn’t Iron Man. She is Iron Heart. Also Spider-Man is Iron Man’s replacement.
