Variety is reporting that Marvel Studios has enlisted Chinaka Hodge as head writer on their upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart, which will star Dominique Thorne (Judas and the Black Messiah; If Beale Street Could Talk) as Riri Williams.
The series will consist of six hour-long episodes, with the writer's room currently slated to open sometime next month. A production start date is yet-to-be determined, but it seems like cameras could roll before the end of the year, if not sometime early next year.
While plot details are virtually non-existant, the series will introduce Riri Williams to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will presumably follow her on her journey to create the most advanced suit of armor the world has seen since Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) took to the skies.
Hodge is a staff writer on TNT's Snowpiercer series, which was recently renewed for season three, and has also contributed to Apple TV+'s Amazing Stories. In addition to being a full-time screenwriter, she's also a poet, playwright, and educator. She has published two books of poetry to date, For Girls with Hips: Collected Poems and Writings and Dated Emcees, while her plays include Chasing Mehserle and Mirrors in Every Corner.
Ironheart is one of many upcoming Marvel Studios series that were annouced during Disney's investor day last December, along with Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, and Armor Wars.
