LOKI Head Writer Confirms That Marvel Studios Has No Plans For Season 3

The second season of Loki appears to have perfectly wrapped up the story of the TVA variant that resulted from a bungled Avengers: Endgame time-travel mission.

Once the credits rolled on Loki season 1, episode 6: For All Time. Always, fans were treated to a message that the God of Mischief would be returning for a second season.

But as the show's second season ended with Loki Laufeyson settling into his new role as the God of Stories, there was no such message confirming a third season.

Indeed, Loki head writer/showrunner Eric Martin confirmed to CinemaBlend that there are currently no plans for season 3.

"We approached this as like two halves of a book. Season one, first half. Season two, we close the book on Loki and the TVA. Where it goes beyond that, I don't know. I just wanted to tell a full and complete story across those two seasons," said Martin.

In a separate interview, Loki producer Kevin Wright added, "We certainly did not develop this season going, 'We have to tee up season 3,' in the way that we did with season 1, where there was a very specific, 'Hey, we’re coming back.' But I also think that where this show goes, there certainly can be many, many, many more stories told with Loki in the 'Loki' world, and in other worlds connected to Loki, the character."

Loki season 1 debuted in June 2021 and season 2 premiered on October 2023.  If it takes two years to produce a new season, the earliest a third season could premiere would be 2025. It's thought that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2026) will setup the end of the time-travel/multiverse saga that began with Marvel Phase Four. We'll likely say goodbye for good to the multiverse concept in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

It's possible that Tom Hiddleston's time playing Loki has come to an end. As he settles into his role as the protector of the multiverse from outside of time, it stands to reason that he'll simply exist beyond the reach of the other heroes and villains of the MCU.

Loki Season 2 Official Synopsis: Loki Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15 and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.

Good. Those two seasons work perfectly as one story. Let it be.

Also, volume #2 (eps3-6) of the OST can't come out soon enough.

Good. There is nothing to do with a season 3 that would just make seasons 1 and 2 once again irrelevant. Just leave Loki on his throne till they end the MCU. He will probably come in clutch to save the day when all hope is lost and we've totally forgotten he pulls the strings now.

@TheVandalore -
Loki pulling the strings means the story is already over, he is manipulating the entire multiverse, you can't have any multiverse destroying story occur now because he orchestrates it all.

Doesn’t need a third season. That story is complete. We just have to wait and see what part he plays in the overarching story of this saga now.

My guess is he'll play the part of Molecule Man.

This also proves that people aren't tired of Multiverse and time travel shit.

Y'all just tired of bad stories, as you should be.
We have barely begun.

Makes sense, it ended in a very concluding way for Loki. Man, just imagine what Thor would think of him.

@KWilly - I hope we don’t have to imagine and we actually get a goddamn reunion in Secret Wars so he can see what his brother has achieved and the king he’s become.

Don’t do a 3rd season but pepper in the TVA crew where it makes sense in the other propertied. Loki has found his glorious purpose. Leave him the [frick] alone please.
