LOKI "Honest Trailer" Pokes Fun At Pruning, Similarities To THE MATRIX, RICK AND MORTY, And More

The Screen Junkies team has shared their "Honest Trailer" for the first season of Loki, and it goes without saying that they don't hold back...particularly when it comes to the Rick and Morty comparisons!

Loki was a huge hit for Disney+ when it launched in June, and something of a game-changer for the streaming service seeing as all of its original series will now premiere on Wednesdays.

The critical response to the Marvel Studios series has been overwhelmingly positive, while fans loved seeing the creation of the MCU's version of the Multiverse. However, the Screen Junkies team has now shared an "Honest Trailer" that includes a lot of fair points...and heaps of very funny ones.

A big chunk of this trailer is devoted to pointing out the similarities between Loki and Rick and Morty, a series Head Writer Michael Waldron obviously worked on before joining the MCU. They also highlight how much the show talked about timelines and Variants being "pruned," while pointing out the apparent hypocrisy that it was okay for Earth's Mightiest Heroes to travel back in time in Avengers: Endgame (it's a good point that everything is Iron Man's fault for not letting Hulk in the elevator).

However, something you may be unable to unsee after watching this is just how similar that finale focusing on "He Who Remains" is to what happens at the end of The Matrix with Neo and The Architect. We don't agree with everything here, but ultimately, it's all tongue in cheek and in good fun.

In our review of Loki, we concluded with: "Nothing can prepare you for Loki, a mind-bending dive into the Marvel Multiverse that takes everything you thought you knew about the MCU and turns it on its head for one of the most ambitious, craziest stories Marvel Studios has ever told."

Haven't found these funny in years surprised they still get so many views.

@kider2 - I don't often find them funny, but merely entertaining. And also they often point out at least a few things I'd never considered. More so they just help show me a different perspective.

@kider2 - After they screwed over Andy Signore and ruined his life, SJ was running fumes when they fired him. Then Dan Murrell left and that was pretty much the nail in the coffin at that point. I don't even so much as crack a smile anymore when I watch HT

@RebelCommander - Yea I guess that's true their Screen Junkies Universe stuff gets almost no views at all. Their regular Screen Junkies show has been dead for a while I think.

That Kang monologue, while necessary, was extremely long-winded. Like I checked the time during it and was like, "Dang, dude still blowing out exposition" lol.

Wasn’t one of their better ones. First off, it’s not like Rick and Morty is the most original show concept either. I love that show and it’s funny as hell but it’s mostly an over-the-top Back to the Future/Doctor Who by the creator’s own admission.

I [frick]ing loved this show.

But I still don’t get it. Where do the variants come from? Why can some folks zig when theyre meant to zag, becoming variants?

If there is only a sacred timeline and variants from that timeline are pruned, how do you get characters like Sylvie? A female version of Loki was allowed to be born and grow all the way to the age of 10 or so before being pruned? Wouldnt her reality have been pruned the minute she was born instead of the Loki, our Loki, the timeline is meant to have? Why abduct her, wouldnt they have to prune her whole world not just her, because any world where a female Loki grew to age 10 would be full of big diversions from the ‘sacred timeline’? But the TVA chick says she doesnt remember why they pruned her, as if its something she did rather than her very existence?

I’m a bit confused as to what variants really are and how they happen?

All things considered, B+ content is actually really good. They should've played big Draco Rick and Morty it would've gotten a laugh out of me

Lol those Rick and Morty comparisons don't really hold up.

But He Who Remains being Kang's "annoying theatre kid variant" is pretty on point.

Yeah Loki is like Rick and Morty! Oh but Rick and Morty is like what Marvel has been doing in comics for years.... I have no idea how people keep watching this crap that is Honest Trailers. Although I'll give you it is better than Cinema Sins.
