LOKI: Michael Waldron Confirms Season 2 Will Have New Head Writer; Kevin Feige Teases He Who Remains Fallout

Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron has confirmed that he will hand the show over to another writer for season 2, while Kevin Feige has better explained the impact of He Who Remains being killed by Sylvie...

After serving as Head Writer on Loki season 1, Michael Waldron went on to pen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now, he's believed to be in the midst of writing a Star Wars movie for Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, so it's no great surprise that he won't be back as "showrunner" for the God of Mischief's upcoming second season on Disney+.

We've heard that Eric Martin, the writer behind "The Nexus Event" and "For All Time. Always" (widely considered Loki's best episodes), would take over as Head Writer, and that's now confirmed.

Talking to Digital Spy, Waldron said: "Well, I mean, look, everything leads into everything, right? We've hired a couple of great directors. [Justin] Benson and [Aaron] Moorhead are brilliant. And Eric Martin has taken over as head writer for season 2. So the creative team is fantastic. As Tom [Hiddleston, who plays Loki] once said, there's plenty more mischief to come."

Of course, many fans remain anxious to find out how the events of Loki will be referenced in the Doctor Strange sequel, and that's something Feige addressed during a red carpet interview.

"There’s always a method to the madness. Even in the Multiverse," he teased. "And for the Marvel fans who know that Loki and Sylvie did something at the end of that series that allowed all of this to be possible. He Who Remains is gone and that allowed a spell to go wrong in Spider-Man: No Way Home which leads to the entire Multiverse going quite mad in this."

In other words, had Sylvie's actions not led to the Sacred Timeline branching off and the Multiverse being reborn, what we saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home wouldn't have been possible. And, had the events of that threequel not happened, then neither would what we see in Strange's next adventure.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters tomorrow!

Well yeah. If He Who Remains were still in place then there wouldn't be countless branching timelines, which would also mean that Dr Strange's spell wouldn't have been able to bring over a bunch of alternate versions of characters from other dimensions. Because those timelines wouldn't have existed.

@CorndogBurglar - yes Sylvie is to blame for Stranges stupidity in NWH because sexism. I think I follow.

@McMurdo - Haha. Not what I'm saying at all. In fact one of my biggest complaints about the MCU is how Strange feels nothing like the wise sorcerer he should. He isn't even the damn Sorcerer Supreme, Wong is. And Wong even knew better than to cast that spell in No Way Home. Yet here goes idiot Dr Strange thinking he knows better and not caring about the potential consequences.

616 Strange wouldn't have done that BS.

I'm just saying that if the multiverse was still intact, even Strange's stupid and reckless decision wouldn't have caused all those characters to cross over realities.

gave this one a rewatch yesterday getting prepped for Madness of the Multiverse, man this show is some good [frick]ing food. Marvel Studios is having a blast exploring these characters a lot more deeper with these shows, while doing the same for the new characters they're introducing.

Music score and cinematography are just exquisite which blends perfectly with the character work and the actors performance, LOKI was my least interested show and ended up being my second favorite lol.

@JosephCronos92 - I wasn't really interested in it either (aside from interest is seeing how it was gonna handle time-travel mechanics), but the finale really saved the show for me. Or rather, Majors saved the show for me

Best MCU series so far!

Moon knight was great but this is still king in my book.

@Fogs - Until the finale that was all exposition

@Himura - well that's precisely one of the reasons why I liked it.

Enough of big battles in the end, this formula is ooold to me. The struggle happened in the previous one, then it ended with the twist.

An example of a film that could've benefited from that would be the first wonder woman (which I like nonetheless) - Ares should've shown her there was no way she could stop him because war is in the hearts of men. End with a downer.

Way better than that cgi fest.

I can imagine the Scarlet Centurion as the leader of a gang of time raiders. They make incursions in different times and in different universes, attacking Kang's men.

Then, Loki could team up and trick Kang's enemies.

I really wonder what capacity Kang is gonna be in this or in Quantumania. Can imagine those two will just be variants, and we won't see prime Kang until Avengers 5

@bkmeijer1 - I really can’t imagine it will be a fully powered, Prime Kang - the one who’s statue adorns the new TVA at the end of Loki.

I actually don’t think he will be the villain. I think Marvel is hiding the real antagonist for that movie (maybe it’s Janet?). If anything I wonder if it’ll be the pre-He Who Remains scientist who just discovered timetravel, and came to meet the “famed” and brilliant Hank Pym because he’s the one who discovered the Quantum realm, which made Kang’s timetravel possible. But for one reason or another is haunted by what he’s seen and infinite possibilities. And over the course of the movie realizes that Janet’s power from the Quantum realm is valuable and he needs it, so he slowly becomes an antagonist to the team. Then at the end, perhaps they encounter THE Kang, who comes to prune this version, and get the floor wiped with them - setting him up to be the real big bad moving forward.

@kg8817 - yeah I don't think he'll be a villain in Quantumania either. Instead I could maybe see him as Immortus hiding out in the Quantum Realm.

As for the real villain, I'm kinda hoping we'll get the return of Mitchell Carson with a fully functioning Yellowjacket suit (piloted by Eric O'Grady).

Best D+ show thus far (Haven't watched Moon Knight's finale yet) and Majors was a gamechanger as Kang. (He better get himself a Guest Actor Emmy for that)So I can't wait to see where it goes next.
