LOKI Season 2 Possible Release Window Revealed; Marvel Studios Has Begun Preparing For Jonathan Majors Recast

An updated release window for Loki season 2 has seemingly been revealed by a new report, while it sounds like Marvel Studios has finally begun preparing for a Kang the Conqueror recast if necessary...

At one point, it looked like we might get as many as half a dozen Marvel Studios TV shows on Disney+ this year but, as things stand, we'll be lucky to have two.

It appears Bob Iger's return as Disney CEO means the pressure has been taken off Kevin Feige to deliver near-monthly content for the streaming service. Now, we're anticipating the entire Multiverse Saga being spread out and delayed to counter the quantity over quality issue that plagued the MCU's Phase 4.

Going back to the two shows we mentioned, though, and Secret Invasion is up first with Loki season 2 expected to follow. According to The Cosmic Circus, the current plan is for the latter to premiere in October 2023; previously, we'd heard September 2023, but it seems the release window has now changed. Seeing as Ahsoka premieres in August, eliminating any overlap with Loki makes sense.

The site adds that Marvel Studios strongly considered delaying Loki even further due to "storyline issues." There's also the small fact one of the show's lead stars, Jonathan Majors, is in the midst of a domestic abuse case which could end his career if he's found guilty.

The Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania star will play Victor Timely and a number of other Kang the Conqueror Variants in the series, and no matter what happens, it sounds like we'll see Majors as the villain in Loki season 2.

Beyond that, though? Well, changes may be on the horizon.

"Given the nature of the allegations, Marvel and Disney are closely monitoring the case before making any official decision," the site explains. "However, according to sources familiar with the situation, Marvel has already started preparations (if push comes to shove and the need arises) to recast Kang the Conqueror."

This was probably inevitable, and the actor's future should become clear in the coming weeks and months. With the WGA strike likely delaying both Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, there's certainly time to make a decision one way or the other.

Awkward timing for Majors to still be in Loki S2, only for him to be recast in Kang Dynasty. I mean, I know they don't have a choice, but still...

@KWilly - At least it's not as bad as having a tentpole summer movie coming out, like The Flash. This could have been a lot worse if it had happened after Kang Dynasty was completed.

@ObserverIO -

The Flash has (both laughably and smartly) based its marketing on Keaton's Batman for that exact reason. Loki doesn't enjoy that same luxury, unfortunately.

@KWilly - Time for some deep fake AI shit, if I can see it on IG, Disney can do it lol

Yea, they could easily just go forward with Loki and see what happens.

@DrReedRichards - I'm certainly wrong but I'm getting the feeling Marvel will use the writer's strike to "cancel" Kang Dynasty and it into something else within the Avengers realm.

I mean, you must be crazy to spend a whole phase and a whole Avengers movie to a character that people didn't give a shit about.

It's the chance that they needed.

@MadThanos -

That's a good opportunity for them to do so, but I honestly doubt that will be the case.

Don't know who the main scriptwriters are that Feige chose to basically outline the Multiverse saga (probably Waldron and Loveness), but with the previous Phase already over and done with, I don't see them them changing course any time soon. Even if that last Phase overall failed to receive the enthusiasm they were hopin for.

Changing a few things along the way, you bet. Outright canceling? I just don't see it.

@DrReedRichards - Fortunately the title 'The Kang Dynasty' could have a number of interpretations. They could possibly retool it to talk about the lineage Kang came from (Reed and Sue, Doom, etc) to make it essentially a Fantastic Four with supporting Marvel superheroes.

@DrReedRichards - correct, it's Loveness and Waldron.

I don't know what could be worse: a complete change of direction at this point or maybe insisting on Kang Dynasty.

Kang Dynasty will underperform and it will drive Disney's stock down. And you know the bloodbath that comes with that.

@MadThanos -

Kang Dynasty (and as a consequence Secret Wars) underperforming is as safe of a bet as it is an ominous one.

One of the mistakes in Phase IV, and that's coming from someone who still adamantly supports its experimental approach, was the choice to introduce so many different elements without a conclusive crossover like the previous Phases had done with each of the Avengers' entries. You have corners like the Midnight Sons, Thunderbolts, Marvel Cosmic, and yet not one celebratory entry to even hint at them all coming together down the line. We as comic fans may know what's about to happen, but general audiences certainly do not; and unless they're given enough of a reason to care, they won't have to.

At this point, for either of the new Avengers movies to perform anything close to the previous ones, both Thunderbolts (ending Phase V) and Fantastic Four (starting VI) have to be really good. And I mean really, REALLY good. Good enough to shut people uo with no room for and's, if's, or but's.

And yes, I do dread the following gloating and flexing by certain morons who're still stuck in their precious pre-2016 CBM era... Make of that year what you will.

I don’t get why a recast needs to happen. Guilty or not. If the guy gives a good strong public apology on Oprah or something, why isn’t that enough?? Why does he need to lose his career?? These situations are not black n white like folks think. It’s sometimes not as easy as guilty or innocent. And no, I don’t condone violence against women or men. Before someone says that stupid shit. But if you’ve had these type of situations come up in your life and you have unfortunately witnessed this kinda stuff, you know first hand it’s not always black and white. A lot of pain can be dished out with words. That pain can be worse than physical pain. Idk, I just hate seeing this happen to anyone. I’ve enjoyed this guys work so far and have been looking forward to watching a whole lot more of it. We will see I guess…

@BARBER23 - because people feel that if you work in Hollywood it’s some sort of privilege you’re not allowed to have if you make mistakes in life.
Until he’s convicted of a crime I think people should lay off. And then depending on his actions there should be room for forgiveness.

But people love to play the morality card to feel better about themselves.

@BARBER23 - Whether it's black and white not, companies don't want to put that image out there. It's not a good look for a company to hire a convicted criminal. Whether it's hitting a woman, robbing a bank, murder, or anything else.

Let me ask you this. Having the stance you are taking, how do you feel about Ezra Miller? He hasn't been I'm trouble in a while and he's also apologized. Should WB keep him employed?
