Marvel Studios' LOKI Season 2 Reportedly Has A Sizable Budget Of $141.3 Million

According to Forbes, Marvel Studios has spent approximately $141.3 million on a second season of Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston.  MCU fans are instantly comparing this news to the reported budget of Secret Invasion, which cost Marvel $211.6 million to produce.

To further put these numbers into perspective, the last four MCU films, GotG Vol 3. ($250M), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($200M), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($200-$250M), and Thor: Love and Thunder ($250M) have all had production budgets of $200 million or more.

Loki season 2 will see Hiddleston's God of Mischief teaming up with Owen Wilson's Mobius and series newcomer Ke Huy Quan's O.B. as they deal with the fallout from the series one finale that saw the sacred timeline fracture into a multiverse.

The first trailer for the series recently debuted and instantly became the most-viewed promo for a Disney+ show in only 24 hours.

MCU fans are seemingly desperate for a return of higher quality content following tepid critic and audience response to Secret Invasion and several recent MCU cinematic outings. Will Loki season 2 be just what the doctor ordered?

This period of MCU uncertainty also comes as Disney CEO Bob Iger recently made statements that spending on Marvel content needed to be reined in.

"In our zeal to basically grow our content significantly and serve our streaming offerings, we ended up taxing our people, in terms of their time and their focus, way beyond where they had been," said Iger.

"Marvel is a great example of that. They had not been in the TV business at any significant level. Not only did they increase their movie output, but they ended up making a number of television series [which] diluted focus and attention."

Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below. Do you think the second season of Loki will get the MCU back on track as it moves forward towards an Avengers showdown with Kang the Conqueror?

@bobevanz - Those 140 millions are just for preproduction and shooting. It doesn't account for post production. So we don't know the entire budget for the show.

Based on the trailer, this is one of the MCU shows that you can see the budget. It looks beautiful. Hopefully it can provide us with a quality show.

Yeah, after the whistle-blower at Disney I have zero faith in this company.

Apparently any conservative voices or people criticizing the "woke" direction the company is heading in are sent to HR and/or fired, they're hiring minorities in top positions even when they don't have the necessary qualifications, and the execs are operating under the idea that disney is so engrained in pop culture that people will have no choice but to keep watching.

This is by far my favorite show, and the trailer looks great. What marvel forgets is that this is a shared universe and getting cameos of other heroes, saving ordinary people, that tuff is what fans love. No supes, saving or cameos in Boring Invasion, crapola. Hope they get to Asgard, maybe see Thor after @ Taika trashed him into a Simpleton and or Frog Thor would be awesome, maybe hela, Beta Ray bill, Odin, Balder, Malekith, Skurge, or some new big bad like, Mangog, Kurse, mephisto, doom, galactus, ulik, Ego. Also, hope they show Loki's comic book powers, his real powers. He is not the joke that we have all seen on screen thus far. Maybe dive further into time, but also into Loki and his world.

Apparently these totals are based on whatever the last reported quarter was, it’s likely to be more.

Loki's season 2 budget is on par to Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Ant-Man & Shang-Chi all of which had budgets $150M or less. I think Marvel Studios can make great films without resulting to $200M or more budgets. My guess is until Marvel Studios can reclaim its past prestige; they'll keep the budgets in the $140M -$165M range for the smaller solo films which feature new characters. The big projects which have established characters and team films could break between $175M to $2ooM. I think only the Avengers films probably will bust the $200M ceiling.

As hard as it may sound for a Marvel Studios project to make only $500M in a worldwide box office, if the budget is $150M-$165M that would be considered a success.

The problem in the past was COVID made every production more expensive. Its' why we have so many Marvel films crossing over $200M that were in production during that period. NOW, the problem is the writers/actors strikes. Every production stalled like Deadpool 3; Blade & Thunderbolts is adding extra daily costs to their budgets. Deadpool 3 has an estimated budget of $195M and that film will cost far more than that by the time the strikes are over especially if the film gets delayed. I can only imagine how expensive the Thunderbolts budget is going to be having already been delayed. It's going to be a while after the strikes or over before production costs stabilize for Disney or any studio for that matter.

@String - Iron Man came out 15 years ago, Captain America and Thor, 12. The economics of ‘adjusted for inflation’ are in play here as you cannot linearly compare hard numbers when discussing the buying power of $1 in 2008 vs the buying power of $1 in 2023

Did they embezzle some of the 200 million for Secret Invasion or what or did they pay Jackson 100 million

@abd00bie - seriously. How on earth did secret invasion cost so damn much? I would have guessed it was $75 million or so if I didn’t know better.
