Hear Mike Colter Say 'Sweet Christmas!" As LUKE CAGE For The First Time

Luke Cage is currently shooting in New York City, and while we'll meet the character in Jessica Jones next month, it could be some time before we hear him say his iconic catchphrase. Well, you can listen to it here, along with an explanation from the actor about why it works...

While he doesn't put the same kind of emphasis on it that we'll likely hear in Jessica Jones or Luke Cage, you can hear Mike Colter say "Sweet Christmas!" for the first time in the video below. He also weighs in on the character's use of the catchphrase, stating: "I was afraid of that phrase, but it actually fits so well, I don't know why, I don't know why it fits so well into Luke's mouth. It's appropriate, always apropos." One thing which doesn't work is Luke's classic small screen costume, and Colter tells ComicBook.com about why that kind of thing initially made him reluctant about accepting the role. "When I saw the tiara, all the 1970s blackspoitation stuff, I was like, 'oh my God...' But they assured me, 'that's not what we're doing, we're doing a modern day version.' But yeah, [Luke Cage is] production-codenamed 'Tiara'. It's so funny. We're gonna give them what they want, though." What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

I can not wait to see Luke Cage in Jessica Jones! Such a good character, does anyone know any good Luke Cage comics to read? I've tried reading the original blacksplotation stuff and it can be fun at times.

Should change it to "Sweet Holiday". "Christmas" is an offensive term nowadays.

As a non-Marvel fan who strongly dislikes the character, I'm actually really excited for this show. The cast is mind-blowingly awesome and they seem to be emulating The Wire, which is never a bad thing. So pumped!

Jessica Jones still looks dumb and uninteresting though. I'll probably wait for the "Kilgrave compilation" to enjoy David Tennant's scenes.

@TheBeard maybe a few seasons down the road. Ritter said there relationship is building towards how it is in the comcis; marriage and a kid. I think we will see the kid before Marvel's first on screen marriage ceremony haha

@KurtWagner1225 I love DC and Marvel, but I always felt like Marvel relationships between heroes was very real and mirrored that of how actaul people are with their close friends. Really organic and genuine. It's great

@Kyos the interaction between those two, those panels, its all so GENUINE and authentic. It's mad real. The dialogue is short and poignant. No need for niceties and bullshit. "You want it?" "Yea" "ok, new chapter". Perfect. I've always loved that scene between them

They have a dynamic that so real. A lot of comic book couples miss that authenticity
