We recently found out that season 2 of Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage was prepping to commence production in New York, and now thanks to That Hashtag Show (via MCU Exchange) we might have a pretty good idea which new big bad is going to be introduced, along with a mysterious new female character.

As always, the characters' real identities are hidden, but here are the descriptions that have been sent out to casting agencies:

[BYRON] 30 – 45, 6’0 or taller, Jamaican, but open to Black Caribbean or African Descent. The smartest man any room, the most effortlessly powerful man in any situation. A natural leader, brimming with resentment, but focused on justice. Physically fit and wildly intelligent. Speaks with a native accent from Jamaica / Caribbean / Africa, etc. SERIES REGULAR

[TAMARA] mid-20’s – early 30’s, African American, female, earthy. A brilliant, confident business owner who prides herself on her independence.. As much as she tries to stay far from trouble, it seems to always find her. ACTORS MUST BE STRONG SINGERS. SERIES REGULAR

Byron is almost certainly Caribbean crime boss John McIver, AKA Bushmaster, who has had run-ins with Cage, Iron Fist, and pretty much every one of their supporting characters in the comics.

The breakdown for Tamara, meanwhile, doesn't call to mind any established Luke Cage comic characters - however, based on audition tapes they've seen, That Hashtag Show speculates that Luke's brother, James Lucas Jr., may have been adapted as a sister. In the comics, James becomes the supervillain known as Coldfire, so that fate may also await "Tamara".

Though nobody has been cast in these roles yet (as far as we know), it's been confirmed that Evan Parke (King Kong, Django Unchained) has read for Byron, while Amina Robinson (Precious, 5 to 7) seemed to be auditioning for Tamara.

Really enjoyed that first season. I hope they keep the same tone.

@Reo5150 - I hope they learn from the mistakes of the second half of season 1. The first half was great!

I wonder which version of Bushmaster they would use, or would they go with some amalgam of the two.

For me, Luke Cage was the worst Netflix-show so far. I don't hate it, but it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. It was too slow and the final episodes were just weird, the story didn't work well. And Diamondback is just laughable. I am sorry. Jessica Jones is my favorite small screen "hero" so far. Loved DareDevil season 1 too, wasn't surprised by season 2. Iron Fist was quite good, better than I expected after reading all those negative reviews. Can't wait for The Defenders!

@Unites - Agree with all of this. Cage began so well, but there was such a drop in quality after Cottonmouth dies that it brought the show down overall in my estimation. Iron Fist was at least consistently average.

@Unites - I agree as well, Iron Fist was a lot better than Luke cage. Luke Cage turned to shit after Cottonmouth died.

@RorMachine - Could not get into Iron fist especially after seeing him flip over that car , that was so bad .

Killing off Cottonmouth still pisses me off but I enjoyed season 1. Honestly, they shouldn't even do season 2 or Iron Fist season 2 just yet. They just should have rolled out Heroes for Hire season 1 after Defenders. Netflix Marvel shows are killing it thought! Bring on the Punisher!
