LUKE CAGE Showrunner On Incorporating IRON FIST Into Season 2; Teases A Moment That Will Answer Fans' Prayers

It’s well-known that the first season of Marvel and Netflix’s Iron Fist was met with a lot of criticism, with many fans being far from pleased with their take on Danny Rand. And while some did think Finn Jones’ character improved in The Defenders, there was a number of fans who were not as impressed.

Still, many are hoping that will change, as the Immortal Iron Fist will get another shot at redemption when he makes his appearance in Luke Cage Season 2, which is something showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker hopes to achieve.

“I think—I’m hopingthat you’ll feel that your prayers have been answered,“ Coker said, while discussing the team-up between the Heroes for Hire in Episode 10. The reason for this, the showrunner explains is because of “the way that Iron Fist fits into [Season 2], and his interactions with Luke.”

Coker then went on to tease a that there will be fight scene involving the two crimefighters that is “paired with '7th Chamber Part 2' ” by the Wu-Tang Clan. Unfortunately, the showrunner didn’t share any other details about this moment, but he did suggest it will wow fans.

Aside from this, Coker also addressed the backlash against Iron Fist and whether it affected how he handled the character.

“It doesn’t bother me that people have criticized Iron Fist on his series and on 'The Defenders.' I’m arrogant enough to think that Iron Fist appearing on our show has a different sensibility. And so, it’s like—that’s the thingI’m not dissuaded by that, because Iron Fist, I think, is a dope character. And I think when you see Iron Fist within the realm of Luke Cage, and the way that we do things, I think—hopefully—that people are going to come to appreciate the character differently, and hopefully that swagger that he’ll get from appearing in the 'Luke Cage' universe will carry over into ['Iron Fist' Season 2].”

Finally, Coker continued the topic by heaping some praise on Raven Metzner, who he says is “passionate about the character” and has the right sensibilities for Iron Fist.

In all, Cheo Hodari Coker is certainly hoping to provide a take on Danny Rand that will please fans of the comic book character who have been disappointed with the way he has been handled by other showrunners.

The Punisher was decent, with some EXTREME highs, (I only liked five episodes), and Jessica Jones season 2 was borderline unwatchable -- in fact, I put Iron Fist season 1 WAY above that JJS2.

But I no longer have hype for Marvel Netflix.

I still watch them, but I used to wait with anticipation. Too many let downs.

Glad they got someone who was passionate about the character for season 2. I think they would have avoided a lot of issues if they had done that to start with...

Once this and Iron Fist S2 are done they should have them both permanently team up as Heroes for Hire. Keep Cheo on as showrunner. From then on, the Netflix line up should be:
Daredevil
Jessica Jones
Heroes For Hire
Punisher

I don't really think we need to see The Defenders get another team up series. There's not much reason to get the band back together, there aren't many threats as big as The Hand, and I feel like that does lost something trying to be bigger than the others. Definitely down for occasional crossovers between shows though.

Costume please. I am sure he won’t wear it here if he is going to wear it at all. They’ll probably save it for IF2.

I'm glad he is aware of the criticism. I like his approach that Danny on this show means a new sensibility can be brought to the character. Season 1 never existed lol.

Hoping we see a cool, calm and collcted Danny. Laid back. Maybe Luke teaches him how to mellow out.

I wonder if they'll ever do Heroes 4 Hire at all. Charging for superheroics just seems less heroic.
