LUKE CAGE Star Mike Colter Is Open To Returning To The Role, But Says He's "Not Holding His Breath"

With rumors doing the rounds that Charlie Cox might be set to reprise the role of Daredevil in The MCU, could we also see Mike Colter return as Luke Cage? The actor seems game, but hasn't heard anything.

Recent rumors that Daredevil actor Charlie Cox might be set to return as Matt Murdock for Spider-Man 3 (and possibly even She-Hulk) have led to speculation that some of his fellow Netflix Defenders may get the chance to reprise their respective roles in the MCU at some point.

That's certainly not outside the realm of possibility, but for Luke Cage star Mike Colter, at least, it's not something he's actively anticipating.

When asked if he'd heard anything about stepping back into the streets of Harlem as Power Man during an interview with Coming Soon, Colter revealed that he hasn't been in contact with anyone from Marvel - but he does seem open to the idea should the opportunity present itself.

“I got to say, I rarely think about it in the sense of what could be or will be, I know fans are eager to see something with the character,” said the Monsterland actor. “I know I established him and it was an honor to do that, but I don’t know what the future holds, I’m just in my mode of doing Evil right now and a few films on hiatus. If something happens, I’d love to have a conversation with them, but for now I’m not holding my breath, I’m happy either way, it was a good run.”

If Cox is indeed set to return as the Man Without Fear, it could open the door for the likes of Colter and Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) to join him in the MCU, but even if that is on the cards, we're most likely going to be waiting quite a while to hear about Marvel Studios' plans for these characters.

Would you like to see Colter back in action as Luke Cage?

@Baka - He was fine but in no way the IDEAL Luke. He was missing a good chunk of what makes Luke.

@BlackBeltJones - I like Colter and I appreciated what the series aimed to be. But I also think if the character is brought to the MCU there's another actor out there that could do a higher caliber job.

With this said, in no way was he "awful". Tired of these grumpy cats.

@Baka - I agree. He did not have the swagger that Luke needs. He just felt really stilted and awkward whenever he had to deliver some lines that would show that off. Its a shame. He looked the part but just too much of a nice/proper vibe.

I love Luke Cage. Honestly, S2 might be my favourite out of any of the Netflix shows. I might be a little biased because of the Jamaican representation, though.

I really hope they bring him back too. They could totally soft-reboot him & IF into their own Heroes for Hire D+ show

He was a solid Luke but they could do better. He was missing that no nonsense, inner city bite and swag that makes Luke..."Luke"

@BlackBeltJones - If they ever finished his Crime Lord storyline & he went back to being a hero in a hypothetical S3, I feel like he’d totally be more like this version.
GhostDog

@DaHyro - I can see that this is probably where they were going.

Luke has always been a "enough talk, be gone or I'll make you gone" kind of dude. He cuts the fat, gives you a warning and then its go time.

His interpretation of Luke Cage was safely soft.
Luke Cage is brazen, confident, and self-assured, and unapologetically street. Plus he has all the power to back up his blackitude.

The qualities you mentioned are SO KEY.

@Battabing - I agree, whenever he tried to act "street" in this is came off as stilted and a bit phony. Never bought it.

With everything being announced, I doubt there are any plans for Luke Cage. But if he returns, I don't mind seeing Colter again in the role.
PicolasCage

As with all the casting choices for Netflix Marvel shows, he was serviceable but did not fully inhabit the role like RDJ and Chris Evans have to the point that it’s hard to picture other people playing those characters.

As it stands I’m very ready for brand new (and potentially better) interpretations of these characters as they’re added to the MCU

Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes portrayed Iron Fist and Luke Cage better than live action version with little screen appearance

@GodHercules20 - To be fair AEMH portrayed most of the characters better than their MCU counterparts. Not to say I don't like the MCU versions, but AEMH truly boils down the characters to their essence and makes them the best versions of themselves and because it's a cartoon they also get to keep their classic costumes and more ridicules elements that would look silly in live action.
