Mike Colter Is Unsure About Whether LUKE CAGE And THE DEFENDERS Could Appear In MCU Films

Whether or not The Defenders (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist) will ever appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films has been a hot topic amongst fans. While many would love to see the characters appear in future team-up films, (along with Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe And Anthony Russo stating that they're taking all options into consideration), the rumoured friction between the televison and film divisions has been cited as the major barrier. However, according to Luke Cage actor Mike Colter, the problem is not so much the rumoured tension, but the difference between the stories and overall tones of the productions.

In a radio interview with Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM, Colter said that the difference in tone between the Netflix series and the Marvel Studios films is a bit of a roadblock when it comes to crossing the two platforms over with one another. "What we do is really unique… We’re adult kind of oriented. We’re not PG-13. We’re not really for the mass audiences, crowd pleasing, family oriented. We have sex scenes. We have, you know, adult situations, and while I think it’d be nice to be in the films, I don’t know if we want to dilute what we’re doing that makes us very unique."

Colter went on to clarify that it's up to Marvel in the end, though the actors' schedules also need to be taken into consideration. "That being said, you know Marvel, if they can make it work I’m sure it’d be nice, but it’s really scheduling. They schedule movies years in advance, we’re shooting TV series year round. It’s very tough to just kind of make things just work the way you want to because it’s just so much going on."

Do you want to see Luke Cage cross over to the films, or are you happy with the character remaining on Netflix? Sound off below!

I agree with him....to an extent. If you're going to cross over, there should be a good story reason. I like the idea of these guys down on the street, not necessarily NEEDING to meet the big hitters but still fighting the good fight.

I really do like how the Netflix shows show that there's plenty of stuff the Avengers can't/don't handle. Makes Tony's Ultron dream seem even more deluded in context.

@MattBellissimo - I think it makes more sense for a MCU character to show up in the Netflix-verse than the other way around. Maybe have Spiderman show up in Daredevil, or have Black Widow come and scout the defenders in an episode. Then, they could show up in a movie and there wouldn't need a huge introduction. I could easily see an episode where Spidey shows up, and Daredevil has to kind of show him how dark the world is. Tell's him, you handle the meta threats, let me handle the dirty stuff.

The show was pretty good; second best to DD S1 for me.

Had its fair share of issues but still enjoyable.

@TheFro - Mike Colter is what truly makes the show, he's SO GOOD.

They simply have to make this work. As crazy as it sounds given they are incorporating all the Avengers and GotG, Infinity War will feel incomplete without the MCU TV heroes in it. If you count the 3 or 4 "legit" characters on AoS and all the Netflix ones, that's roughly 1/3 of the MCU.

@Pigdango - Of course it can work. It's simple writing. Thanos and his army completely swarm the Earth. And innocent people are being attacked and The Defenders take to the streets to fight and guide people to safety. Plain and simple. No need to have Luke throw down with Thanos. Just The Defenders saving people.

Finished Luke Cage. Not as good as I was hoping. Wound up to be a little boring.

@LordHarryLatts - Of course it was boring. It was yet another feeble attempt to bring a comic book character to life to appease comic book fans. Will will this madness stop already?!

I think that Spider-Man's appearance in CW showed that the MCU can introduce characters with little explanation and still have it work. Even just a brief appearance of the Defenders in Infinity War fighting Thanos' forces would be cool.
