Marvel and Netflix have announced that Mike Colter has been cast as Luke Cage in Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones. The 13-part series will air after Daredevil, but neither show has a confirmed air date. According to the official character description, "During the course of an investigation in New York City, private investigator Jessica Jones encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage – a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined." Colter is best known for starring in The Good Wife, American Horror Story, and Xbox series Halo: Nightfall

"Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage," said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg in a statement released today. "We're excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life." Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television  adds: "Fans have longed to see Luke Cage brought and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor. Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos." After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City. Thoughts on Mike Colter as Luke Cage?

I've never seen him in anything (I'll start The Good Wife eventually, heard it's great), but he definitely looks the part!

Don't know him or Luke Cage very well but I am quite excited. I am guessing he will have his show in 2016 along with Iron First, with The Defenders in 2017.

The cinematic world building that is still happening at Marvel is so surreal.

Cool, I'm just looking forward to seeing the character on screen. Can't believe that the Heroes for Hire are able to make live action appearances.

Okay this is cool, but who is going to play Luke Cage in his own show? Now that's the real question isn't it?

Anyone else think we'll see some seriously small time heroes in this show? I mean like Demolition Man and 3-D Man, those kinds of guys.

I am guessing that Jessica Jones has Luke Cage's introduction, which leads to his show, and Iron Fist is introduced in Luke Cage's series. After the Defenders, let's hope there is a Heroes for Hire series.
