It sounds as if Claire Temple's role in Luke Cage is going to be even bigger than expected, as Marvel has today announced that her mother will be making an appearance in the highly anticipated series. Emmy and three-time Golden Globe nominee Sonia Braga (Brothers & Sisters) is playing Soledad Temple, and Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, had this to say about the casting today. "A character as strong as Claire needs an equally powerful mother, and with Sonia we found the perfect actress to deliver the stellar performance we needed. In ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage,’ fans will now get a chance to see where Claire got the fire we love her for." Executive Producer and Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker meanwhile also weighed in with his excitement about this latest addition to the cast. "Sonia Braga? Rosario Dawson? ‘Nuff said. I'm tuning in. When it came to finding someone who was both formidable yet possessed a light touch, Sonia was the perfect choice and has been a Godsend." Luke Cage will air next year on Netflix, though a premiere date has not yet been announced by the online streaming service.

I smell a love quadrangle coming.
Jessica/Luke/Claire/Matt.
Let's hope Karen Page's keys don't end up in this fishbowl. She hasn't been tested yet.

Why does noone talk about the fact that we'll get something from Civil War on Jimmy Kimmel tonight?

Luke Cage, as of right now, is my most ANTICIPATED NETFLIX MCU SHOW besides Daredevil season 2. Soooo glad Claire's backstory is being explored. Love her character. Interested to see how Claire is integrated into Luke's life and story; especially after she just met him in JJ

@TheAmbassador

Supposedly she's supposed to be the common thread through all the Netflix shows.

@ComicsBornandBred "Luke Cage, as of right now, is my most ANTICIPATED NETFLIX MCU SHOW besides Daredevil season 2" ...Aren't 'Luke Cage' and 'Daredevil S2' the ONLY MCU/Netflix shows officially coming out? In essence, you're excited for ALL the Netflix/MCU shows?

Can't wait for Daredevil S2

JJ was disappointing for me, which sucks because I have nothing new to watch now, haha, I rewatched Daredevil S1 a lot, because I loved that season

Hopefully Luke Cage is good, I'm liking that cast already, and I think Mahershala Ali is going to be a major highlight

@KurtWagner1225 I think so. Apparently, Willis Stryker aka Diamondback, a childhood friend of Luke, will be cast soon. Luke, Shades, and Stryker were all in the same gang as teenagers.

In terms of genre, I think it will be a crime drama and a little but if something else. Colter has said it will be vastly different from its predecessors. He'd said it will be a slow burn. I'm thinking it could be a SLOW BURN THRILLER/ crime drama. Only so many genres haha

“It’s geared towards an adult audience, which is something that will be different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that you’ve seen before on the big screen. I’m excited about playing the character because I’ve read the comic books. They’re very detailed, gritty; the world they’ve written in the comic books is very clear. Marvel does a fantastic job about bringing human stories – because you’re telling big stories with a heart at the centre of it – and that’s what connects all of the characters to our audience members. Audience members have to feel connected with these characters, to make them relate to the character’s situations and that’s what you see with all of the Marvel characters.”

I think it may take some inspiration from some old black crime fiction books and films. I'm an avid reader of those books and they have a tone that fits Cage. Chester Himes books and Walter mosley's works; for example devil in a blue dress. It SHOULD Pay HOMAGE to black crime fiction, not blaxploitation. Colter has said they're shying away from that haha.

Turning 30 was a real kick in the balls. My metabolism basically shut down so I have to keep it to around 1200 calories a day and still work out 4 days a week just to keep myself presentable.

Well, it was reported she was going to be in JJ (although I'm only at the forth or fifth episode), and definitely in LC, and they were saying she's common thread for all of them. SO, she'll probably be in Iron Fist and the Defenders (and Moon Knight, I hope!!!) as well.

@KurtWagner1225 Iron fist, I think, will give a big focus to martial arts. The history of it, more so than DD. They have to display the significance of K'un Lun and Danny's upbringing there. Wonder how they will handle that through flashbacks. K'un L'un is a lavish and grand land. How will TV handle showing it I wonder.

I'd actaully like to see the show not have him fighting the same crime as DD, but I'd actually like a plot similar to immortal iron fist

"The series' first story arc introduces Orson Randall, Daniel Rand's immediate predecessor as Iron Fist, who reneged on his responsibilities to K'un-L'un after suffering immense psychological trauma during the First World War. Randall, living in drug-soaked seclusion, is pursued by agents of the Steel Serpent and the terrorist group HYDRA. Jolted out of his decades-long ennui, Randall seeks out Daniel Rand in New York and gives him The Book of the Iron Fist, a sacred ledger supposedly containing all the Kung-fu secrets of previous Iron Fists, which Randall claims will be necessary if Rand is to compete successfully in the coming Tournament of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven."

Maybe have Rand have gone back to NY after finishing his training, but only to have Orson follow him and warn him of the threat of the Steel Serpent. Id, I just love that run.
