Comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis has written some of the top selling comic books for a while now, including The Avengers. The comic book world knows him well. But soon television viewers will experience his work too. He is a consulting producer and writer on the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man animated show. His Jessica Jones comic is being developed by ABC. And now, FX has ordered a pilot for his Powers series.

Entertainment Weekly heard from Bendis about the Powers television show. Here is what he said about meeting Powers producer Charles H. Eglee (who was just a big part of the Walking Dead show):

“It is so cool,” an amped Bendis told EW via email. “Not just because of the obvious reasons. These are really talented people behind the scenes. I was at Eglee’s house a few weeks ago. He has a Peabody award for his work on The Shield. I have a Wizard Fan Award for Best Costumed Villain.”

Bendis also said:

“I can’t speak specifically to this, but there will be very, very familiar elements from the graphic novels [i.e., the collected storylines] in the pilot and probably in early episodes. But I am truly hoping that Powers — the television show — invents its own language of plot and storytelling as it goes. I personally would like to see a world where the Powers graphic novels and the Powers television show run in parallel but flattering universes much like Dexter. I’m not much into slavish adaptation. I don’t think it brings out the best in what the medium of television has to offer.”

I don't mind some thing deviating from the source material long as its still good. But Powers is a great comic book, can't wait for it.

Charles H. Eglee has some impressive writing and producing credits.

NYPD Blue
The Shield
Murder One
Dexter
Dark Angel
The Walking Dead

Seems like the perfect guy for the show, as he has mainly been involved with gritty crime shows and he's also done action/sci-fi/fantasy/suspense.

Sorry about pulling this earlier. I googled your article to make sure you didnt steal it (something I do to all new contributors). I got a result and figured like 99% of the time it was stolen by CBM.

Guess it was reverse. Sorry about the mix up, no hard feelings?

Also must be pretty kickass to know your work is good enough to steal.
