Silently, Marvel Studios has been developing a live-action Runaways film, based on the graphic novel. And now according to Slash Film, young actress & singer Keke Palmer, who rose to fame for her performance in the 2006 film Akeelah and the Bee, recently proclaimed in Essence Magazine...

"I’ve had a nice little break with the steady TV show but I’m definitely ready to do some more films again. I was just asked to join a new Marvel comic project called, “Runaways.”

There hasn't been any confirmation yet, but with production set to begin in March next year, casting for the film should be well underway. Palmer is one of my favorite rising stars, and I'm glad shes being considered for films outside of what shes usually in. If true, I hope she accepts the role.

Anyhow, Runaways' story follows a group of teenagers discover that their parents are an organized group of super villains called The Pride. On the run from their homes, the group bands together and begin a journey of discovery, both of their parents’ origins and of their own inherited powers..

And as mentioned before, filming is set to begin next March, in Los Angeles, being produced under the fake production title “Small Faces”.

I'm not sure what role she could play, what do you think?

Runaways has to be on the top of my "How the Hell Are They Going to Do That?" list.

At least one character is a mutant, another has the powers of the FF... how can Marvel Studios still include those characters, when mutants and the FF are on the Fox contract?

Well, as Marvel has stated, they still own the rights to the Skrulls.I'm assuming that means Super Skrull, as well.Molly can still be a mutant.Fox doesn't own the rights to the word mutant.They just won't mention the other X-Men.

She may be playing Xavin, though I wouldn't think Disney/Marvel would really touch on the whole lesbian thing.

She's a great young actress I saw her in a Tyler Perry movie, and realized how great of an actress she is. It's funny because she looks like one of Russel Simmons niece's

Great find DCMF! It feels strange to not be super excited for a movie being made by Marvel Studios...I'll have to pick up some of the series as I've never read it which probably explains why I feel that way! :P

I love the runaways but I never liked the Xavin storyline and was hoping that they would exclude it from the movie. Xavin is basically a transgender character that cannot decided wether to be male or female - thats a hard sell for a teen superhero movie that has to deal with mutants, aliens, dinosaurs and time travelers.

P.S. - I can't think of any other character that she would be playing so hope this isn't a case of a character being made only for the movie.

@deathmetalbrian

I know the books are about coming to age and figuring out who you are but I would much rather have Victor in the movie (long before Ultron is introduced into the universe) than have Xavin pushed in and have her storyline cut short.

Lucy in the Sky? Sister Grim? Princes Powerful? Arsenic?

Actually, I beleive Kevin Feige did say that mutants in general were over at Fox. He even gave the example that Dazzler, who was introduced as her own character seperate from the X-titles (and long before becoming an X-Man), would still be apart of the Fox deal because she's a mutant.

As for the Skrulls, yes I know they're at Marvel, BUT... how will Marvel explain that certain Skrulls have the exact abilities of the Fantastic Four, when the Fantastic Four are NOT apart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

THAT'S why I want to see how they work it out.

I hope that they're not talking about Xavin or a female version of Alex. Though: if they make Xavin's parents part of the Pride then it might not be too bad.

i really hope that they don't include xavin on the first runaway movie. same to victor. how are u suppose to explain that he's ultron's son when it doesnt generally exist yet in the marvel movieverse.

well another character i can see her in is that she plays alex's mom during the flashbacks to show how they come to meet the superior beings(i forgot their name).

@JJMeylar

Wasn't the rumor a few months back that the Skrulls would be in the Avengers movie?

If that's what's happening, it could be a good way to introduce the concept for Runaways.
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 10/1/2010, 8:15 AM

Keke would fit well into the Runaways universe. [:
Most likely Xavin, who I hope doesn't have a big part ... maybe a cameo at the end?

since I'd like them to stick to Volume 1 for the first movie.

molly is a mutent but was not introduced in the x-books & along with her perants has no cenection to the x charecters so marvel should be able to use her because fox only has mutents feuterd in the x-books(and by the way kevin feigeu statement that all mutents are x charecters is bs). same goes for whirlwind,maj vance astro, justice,namor, ect. all mutents but were not introduced in the x-books nor have any conection to the x-charecters so marvel can use them(hell even thanos is thenicly a mutent titianian eternal yet we all know he's not ownd by fox!!!) as for xavin all skrulls with powers of charecters not currently owned by marvel studios cant be used,however they will most likely have xavin possess the powers of the avengers rather then the fantastic 4
