From Deadline:
Marvel Studios has picked a writer to draft "Runaways," the live action film based on the cult favorite comic book (created by "Lost" writer Brian K. Vaughan) about the children of super villains who try to use their evil powers for heroic purposes.

The job has gone to Drew Pearce. Considering the number of scribes who wanted the job, Pearce is a relative unknown, but seems a good match for the subject matter when you consider his previous superhero work. Pearce is a British writer who created "No Heroics," a humorous UK television series about a bar that's a hangout for superheroes who aren't allowed to use their powers while knocking back pints.

Pete Sollett (Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist) is set to direct.

Come on Lee. You have to know that Runaways is a bigger draw than New Mutants. I enjoyed both books as well, but Runaways speak to a HUGE spectrum. That's all.

P.S. I love The Tic

I've never read the Runaways but they and the premise sound interesting. I don't know how come most teen stuff, alone, is bad but when you add it into a another genre like 'superhero' then it is better? Most likely better writers I guess.

This is great news! At least the good part of Marvel not having all the movie rights to their characters is that it allows opportunity for lesser known properties to make it to the films.

@Lee: They can't do New Mutants cause Fox owns em.

@AvengersCitizen: I haven't read a lot of Runaways either, but I get a feeling it'll have a New Avengers less-experienced superhero feel to it. I got a feeling it'll feel a little like Kick-Ass. I predict it will be good. Lemme just put it this way: it WON'T be Twilight with capes.

GREAT FIND IRONBAT!!!

On the one hand, I'd rather Marvel get on with making movies like Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Iron Fist/Luke Cage but on the other, I guess the fact they're doing a film based on their lesser known characters will heighten the chance of us eventually seeing them anyway!

I'd be much happier if Marvel Studios were doing the Young Avengers instead though! :P I've always found them to be a far more interesting team.

Although, either of these young superhero groups would make far better TV shows IMO! Like Smallville. Without the "sucks" part. ;)

I guess this means that Runaways will be the 2nd Marvel movie for the Summer 0f 2012 since Feige has stated that the plan is to do 2 movies every year. We knew Avengers is coming out 2012 but didn't know for sure the other. With Avengers, Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman all coming out in 2012, I guess it's Runaways will be a good break but yet still let Marvel make some movie money.
