RUNAWAYS Showrunners Say Season 2 Will Be A "Different Version Of The Show"; Tease MCU References

Season 2 of Marvel and Hulu's Runaways is expected to premiere this winter, and now the series' showrunners say fans can expect to see a vastly different second season as well as a reference to the MCU...

The first season of Hulu's Runaways wasn't Marvel Television's biggest hit, but when the season finale saw the young heroes finally go on the run, many fans began to wonder how the series would change.

And based on showrunners Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it sounds like viewers can expect to see some radical changes.

"Season two is a very different version of the show with the kids living together, the information they have about their parents vs. in a way, season one was like a murder mystery of them figuring out what was going on," executive producer Stephanie Savage explained.

While Savage didn't get too specific, it was revealed that the youngsters will find a new home in an abandoned hostel that lies beneath Griffith Park, which should be familiar to fans of the comics.

However, like most Marvel shows, we shouldn't just expect Runaways to explore the lives of its teenage characters, as Josh Schwartz teased a reference in Season 2 that will connect to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"We'll have a reference that's late in the season that will probably be our first real bread crumb that connects to the MCU," Josh Schwartz revealed.

As expected, Schwartz remained mum on what this new Easter egg will be, but it should be interesting to see, especially since Season 1 was fairly light on references to other MCU properties.

@L0RDbuckethead - LMFAO. I never finished the season did they not run away? For a show called The Runaways, you think they would deliver...

@L0RDbuckethead - boy oh boy was that show a struggle to finish. I was utterly disappointed with the first season. Several episodes were full on cringey. Terrible writing, some decent acting by some and terrible by the rest, just a horrible terrible adaptation.

I'm gonna need to hear some great things about season 2 to return.

@HeavyMetal4Life - They ran away in I think the very last episode.

@ArthurFleck - I feel the same. It's why I haven't even bothered to watch Cloak & Dagger yet. It looks like more of the same. I don't get why these producers are so aggressively meh. Same with Luke Cage Season 2.

@Luminus - I haven't started C and D yet either but Luke Cage season 2 was actually pretty damn good.

Stuck with the show longer than I can believe, through episode 7. Gave up because of how boring and uninteresting the show was. So I won't be watching season 2. But that comment about having a single MCU reference late in the second season is one example of something that this show lacks and gets wrong. Cloak and Dagger had enough references sprinkled throughout the season, even the Netflix shows talk about "the incident" more, lol.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I stopped after episode 1. Lol

@Toecutter - haha, I should have done the same but was hoping that the show would pick up, and I was kind of bored too. But after 7 episodes, I asked myself what I was doing and realized I was wasting my time.

Stopped watching right at the episode in the picture above. Oh and how can they introduce Victor without talking about Ultron?
FearTheLiving

@Kevwebsz - My guess is he'll be unconnected to Ultron and they'll use one of the many other Robot/Cyborg/Tech characters from the comics.

Normally that would bother me but MCU Ultron is so different from the comics it really isn't all that big of a deal to me to alter that as well.
ScionStorm

@FearTheLiving - I don't know what the point of Victor is without Ultron.
FearTheLiving
FearTheLiving - 8/9/2018, 3:24 AM
@ScionStorm - Which is why I said if they used him they'd probably use a stand in for Ultron. There is no way you're getting the extended Pym family as they're presented in the comics, MCU already screwed that up when they made Tony and Bruce the creators of Ultron. And if they were to use Victor in the show there is zero chance we'd see Vision.

I'd love to be wrong but it just isn't practical and we know they aren't afraid to completely alter stories if necessary to make characters work.

Loved season one. The cast works so well together. Runaways and Cloak & Dagger are some of the best season one teen shows I've ever seen, with the best being Teen Wolf
