SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW - She-Hulk's 6'5" Body Double Shares Some Fun BTS Photos From The Series

Marvel Studios brings She-Hulk to life with mo-cap tech, but there is a 6'5" body double on set...who is painted green! Check out some fun behind-the-scenes photos courtesy of stand-in Maliah Arrayah!

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has been a hit on Disney+, and while the special effects aren't always movie-quality, it's hard to fault the way this sensational superhero has been brought to life on screen.

In terms of how that worked behind the scenes, we know star Tatiana Maslany donned a motion-capture costume. However, it turns out that there was also a 6'5" actress on set who was painted green and served as a stand-in! Maliah Arrayah recently took to social media to share some fun photos from her time working on the Disney+ series.

"I got to work with some legendary hair and makeup artists who, fun fact, spent 30-45 minutes creating the green glamazon's look and 20-30 minutes for hair," she recalls. "Doesn’t her wig look amazing? They are some of the hardest working people I’ve literally ever met!"

"I was also fitted in a muscle suit for every single She-Hulk outfit you see her wearing on screen."

One particularly interesting comment saw Arrayah mention that she got to hold Loki's wig. Is it a coincidence that it was on hand or could the God of Mischief factor into She-Hulk: Attorney at Law? Alternatively, is it possible we'll see Jen show up in Loki season 2? We're not going to read too much into this, but it might be something worth remembering!

Arrayah also notes that she wore a muscle suit for her scenes. While some fans might argue that She-Hulk should have been a practical creation, we'd say heading down the CG route was the right move for the hero's MCU debut.

The fourth episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law arrives this Thursday, a.k.a. Disney+ Day.

hmm... I'm a fan of utilizing practical effects as much as possible where VFX is needed.

Well done to the VFX guys.

I can dig it.

They should have just used her like Lou Ferrigno was in the Hulk tv show as the alter-ego. She-Hulk looks like a cartoon charter now like Jessica from Roger Rabbit interacting in the real world. And now that I think of it a Jessica Rabbit joke would work great in the show, like "I'm not bad, I'm just CGIed that way" lol
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 8:22 AM
@WarMonkey - or at least cgid Tatiana face on her.
ColdSlither
ColdSlither - 9/6/2022, 8:30 AM
@WarMonkey - No they shouldn't have. It would look like the Hulk TV show, and like a bad 90's comic book TV show. It's also better for the actress, because looking at her pictures I can already tell that she would get a bunch of body shaming coming her way.
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 9/6/2022, 8:31 AM
@Origame - Or maybe even merge the two faces together
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 9/6/2022, 8:34 AM
@ColdSlither - I think she looks great. And i agree with you about not wanting it to look like an old tv show but the CGI they are using now just isn't working very well.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 8:37 AM
@ColdSlither - do you think Gamora looks like she's from a bad 90s comic book show?
ColdSlither
ColdSlither - 9/6/2022, 8:58 AM
@Origame - Gamora isn't far off from looking like a normal human in the comics. We're comparing a 6'7" woman, with perfect body proportion ratios, which is not average at all, and someone who is. So Gamora would be the occasion from those bad 90's comic book shows, where something looks good.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 9:01 AM
@ColdSlither - you're saying this when she hulk is using a woman with those same proportions and only 2 inches shorter.
ColdSlither
ColdSlither - 9/6/2022, 9:10 AM
@WarMonkey - I think she looks good to. But I'm looking at her and I know my community lol. There's always going to be a trade off. A trade off back in the day would be get someone who fits the role physically, and work around their ability to not act at all. Which is what would have happened if the Cory Everson fan casting from back in the day was ever realized. Today? The CGI may not always be on point, but you can get someone who can act and carry a show/role.
ColdSlither
ColdSlither - 9/6/2022, 9:12 AM
@Origame - No, I'm saying this because I know these fans and how they would complain about this body double.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 9:17 AM
@ColdSlither - well they're complaining about the cgi. And at least the body double wouldn't garner this much hate.

Hell, they'd probably just be impressed there's a woman basically the size of she hulk out there.

Drax is proof of it. No one minded his new look even though he was just painted the same way she hulk would be.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 9:19 AM
@ColdSlither - also, in terms of acting, free guy provided a better way. It's her body physically there throughout everything but just cgi ing the face of Tatiana and she does the Performance. And we basically perfected that technology.
ColdSlither
ColdSlither - 9/6/2022, 9:21 AM
@Origame - And when do fans not complain about something? We're a bunch of complainers. Always have.
ColdSlither
ColdSlither - 9/6/2022, 9:24 AM
@Origame - And if the face ends up not looking right people will complain like they did with Luke. I also checked out her IG. While I think she looks good, these fans would complain about her body. You know they would.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 9:32 AM
@ColdSlither - ...ok? You can still mitigate it.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 9:33 AM
@ColdSlither - a lot easier to make the face look good than it is to make the entire body look good.
ColdSlither
ColdSlither - 9/6/2022, 9:53 AM
@Origame - 1) There's not much you're going to mitigate. 2) Even with the body double they're still using a whole lot of CGI and a muscle suit because she's very skinny.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 9:58 AM
@ColdSlither - 1) I mean, there clearly is. No one cares about drax even though he's in the same boat.

2) what? She's in a suit most of the time. And the design of she hulk they used isn't even that muscular unless she's specifically flexing. And even then, that's when cgi should be used. Enhancements like that as opposed to just make it all cgi.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 9/6/2022, 10:12 AM
@Origame - "well they're complaining about the cgi. And at least the body double wouldn't garner this much hate."

Both Gal Gadot and Brie Larson received significant hate/ridicule for their physiques for their respective roles. And looking at this woman I can 1000% guarantee she would face the same thing due to lack of muscle mass.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 9/6/2022, 10:17 AM
@Origame - Even Battinson caught significant flak for not having enough muscle mass, so it isn't even just a female issue. So let's not pretend like there wouldn't have been just as much if not more hate for a green painted body double.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 10:23 AM
@LongMayHeReign - 1) this double has the same proportions as the cgi model they used. Which is the same as classic she hulk. And the only people complaining about that are feminists who wanted roided out she hulk from the modern books.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 10:24 AM
@LongMayHeReign - 2) they got hate but with the exception of cheese theft they both managed to win the audiences over with their performances. But cgi makes it harder to relate.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 9/6/2022, 10:32 AM
@Origame - 1) Hate is hate my guy regardless of where it comes from.

2) They still got hate regardless of whether they won the audience over or not.

And Marvel can continue to use a CGI She-Hulk and win the audience over in the future simply by doing it better. No one has an issue with Hulk being CGI ore asking for another painted body builder because of how good it looks. Do it better and problem solved.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 10:37 AM
@LongMayHeReign - 1) its the adage of can't please everyone. But uncanny valley is such a major issue with how everyone experiences the product than crazy feminists who don't care about the project other than it being female led.

2) the difference is attitude. Gadot and battinson let their performance answer the hate. The people behind she hulk insulted the people giving their complaints. Not to mention the end result was terrible. The ship has sailed on fans being won over here.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 9/6/2022, 10:50 AM
@Origame - Maybe for you the ship has sailed but for the casual audience it definitely hasn't. Just look at the difference in reception to The Incredible Hulk and Hulk in Avengers. If She-Hulk looks much better in Kang Dynasty and has great moments then just like that she won the fans over.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 11:56 AM
@LongMayHeReign - but she as a character and as a show isn't doing it for audiences.
smgmayhem
smgmayhem - 9/6/2022, 4:58 PM
@Origame - some people like the show and some don't like the show.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 5:35 PM
@smgmayhem - considering the audience reactions, most don't like it.
smgmayhem
smgmayhem - 9/6/2022, 5:43 PM
@Origame - I wouldn't consider the few people that go to a website to review "most" and I wouldn't even take it into to consideration if it had a good audience score. Simply put there are way more reviews and reactions on social media than on review sites like Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic.
Origame
Origame - 9/6/2022, 6:18 PM
@smgmayhem - then everything is mixed reaction by that logic. You're never gonna get a movie or show without some supporters or some haters.

And unless the census starts asking about people's opinion on movies and shows, we're never gonna get a precise percentage. However, for popular projects the number of participants is in the thousands, which is beyond most scientific studies. So this is a perfectly valid way to gage the general interest people have with it.

Being a body double would be a pretty sweet gig. You get to stand opposite a lot of big names, plus it's probably pretty a low stress job.

What I don't get is why they went for so many shots where we see She-Hulk's face in the camera?

Like when she walked in the office in the last episode... it looked extremely clunky and robotic.

If u have a body double on set... why not filming her walking in from behind? Sounds like less CGI and way cheaper to me.
