Edward Norton played Bruce Banner in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, though later walked away from the role. Creative differences were at the heart of that decision after the actor clashed with Marvel Studios over his vision for the character (much to the actor's chagrin, his rewrites and ideas didn't end up playing the biggest role in the final cut).
Mark Ruffalo was later cast to take over from Norton, first playing the hero in 2012's The Avengers. He's since become an MCU mainstay, though She-Hulk: Attorney at Law cheekily acknowledged that recasting during an early episode.
Talking to The Direct, director Kat Coiro revealed that Marvel Studios at least considered asking Norton to return for a cameo. She didn't get too specific, though it does sound like it would have been part of those big fourth-wall breaks in the Disney+ series' chaotic finale.
"There was a lot of talk about the fact that the last time they were together a different actor was playing the Hulk," she said of the Jade Giant's clash with The Abomination. "And Mark [Ruffalo] made quite a few jokes about that. And we did entertain the idea of swapping Mark out for Edward Norton. But that did not come to pass."
It's a shame that Ruffalo and Tim Roth only ended up sharing the screen for a matter of seconds, and this would have been a fun cameo.
As for Norton, he appears to have put his grievances with Marvel Studios to one side, suggesting he may have at least considered a tongue-in-cheek cameo role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It's a shame they weren't able to pull this one off, though it was an already very busy finale with lots of moving parts.
As of right now, there's still no word on what the future holds in store for She-Hulk, though the hope among fans is that Jennifer Walters might make the leap to the big screen.
