SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW Originally Included The Leader "Or Some Relation To Him" Confirms Head Writer

Heading into the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale, fans were convinced that "HulkKing" was The Leader, and Head Writer Jessica Gao has now confirmed there were once plans for The Incredible Hulk villain.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law made it clear from the start that Jennifer Walters' blood was important. Her unique genetic makeup means it could be used to create new Hulks, and over the course of the series, we saw the mysterious "HulkKing" attempt to acquire that for his own nefarious purposes.

The expectation among fans had been that The Leader was behind The Intelligencia, using the group of incels as a means to get what he needed from She-Hulk. It was a good theory, but the truth was that Todd, a goof spurned by Jen after a bad date, was behind the persona.

He transformed into "Hulk-Todd" in the finale, though that was all wiped away after She-Hulk broke the fourth wall and confronted "K.E.V.I.N." at Marvel Studios.

Talking to ComicBook.com, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Head Writer Jessica Gao confirmed The Incredible Hulk's Samuel Sterns was indeed considered for the show. "In my original pitch, I did have The Leader in there. Just as an option, as a suggestion, you know? But really, I can't remember why [it was scrapped]."

"I don't remember if it was organically taken out, because we just came up with other stuff, or if we were told no," she continues. "I honestly don't remember. But there was thought about either bringing him back or doing some version of a new version of Leader, or some relation to him."

"But, I mean truly, this was three years ago, and the show has evolved so much that I don't remember what actually happened."

The Leader is set to make his official return in Captain America: New World Order, though only time will tell whether he'll wind up having some sort of connection to the events of She-Hulk's solo outing. It would be a missed opportunity to not revisit that blood subplot, particularly if the groundwork is being laid for Harrison Ford's General "Thunderbolt" Ross to become Red Hulk.

You can smell the cynicism, they did not want to introduce the leader yet. It would’ve been better than the situation hulk.

@TheWalkingCuban - I still think that Todd and the blood storyline will play into New World Order somehow and Feige just wasn't ready to show that hand.

Maybe it had to do with William Hurt's passing, or maybe they didn't have Tim Blake Nelson back yet.

@thewanderer - or all of the above. I don’t like the idea of not being ready to show that hand, yet, I feel like that happens too much and so the shows are beholden to the movies. It was definitely less that way with agents of shield, and so what I always wanted was connection with that show in the movies and it did not happen. Nevertheless, it was a great show, so now to get quasi-connectivity, and quasi-good😵‍💫 shows. I’m sure there were things that happened on falcon and winter soldier. For instance, that will come into place in the upcoming film, nevertheless, the things that happened on the show also felt like they could’ve been covered in an e-mail. Also the overuse of side characters. They talk so dang much. Hey Siri, stop following so and so and get back to such and such. Ok fine I’ll give an example. She hulks coworker. Or stupid crap. Shapeshifter elf instead of Skrull. Also the lack of Star Wars level visuals in make up and department and cgi areas. Dude they could’ve done way better with the Wrecking crew.

I do t like the shows very much with some exceptions.

@TheWalkingCuban - While I don't think it's what was happening here, I don't think Feige is ever going to make the shows required viewing. The movie going audience is 10 times larger than the show watching audience. They'll do sort of like they did in MoM and give you exposition in the movies of what happened in the shows that you need to know. I'll admit, that does hold the shows back a bit, but it's the way it needs to be.

@thewanderer - Oh goodness, I'd prefer that worthless character not play into anything else.

@thewanderer - I agree. I think that they spent too much time focusing on that "blood" storyline just to have it die with Todd's "unHulking". Clearly something's up with that. I mean they had a whole frickin' lab of people working on it. And, sure, I get that Todd was a billionaire jaded bad-date, but considering that the Leader was trying (WAY back in the 2008 movie to replicate the SS serum) and Todd's team seemed to be able to do it with Jen's blood, I think that Marvel has laid out too many pieces for us to ignore and forego with this particular plot line.

I mean, they brought back Emil and are bringing back Stern, we have the "blood" plot and now Skaar's a thing? Obviously, they're going SOMEWHERE with this. CA:NWO? Probably. TB? Even more likely with Ford's casting (I mean, you don't cast a guy like that for a cameo). Only time will tell...

@StSteven - and to your Thunderbolts point, it would make it make even more sense why there are three Super Soldiers in the movie.

This just sounds like she was giving a nod to the "Trolls" who said it might be the "Leader"!

I don't believe they ever had any intention of putting the "Leader" in this show. I also believe they never once used the comic as reference other then the cover.
