SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW Smashes The Fourth Wall And Delivers Cameos, Easter Eggs...And Some Disappointment

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law saw Jennifer Walters break the fourth wall in the biggest way possible, and while we got plenty of Easter Eggs and cameos, some may be disappointed by the chaotic finale...

Well, that was quite something, eh?

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's finale, "Whose Show Is This?", kicked off with Jennifer Walters in Emil Blonsky's old DODC cell...after a fun nod to the classic The Incredible Hulk TV series. The lawyer is freed after agreeing to wear a power inhibitor, but loses her job and apartment, resulting in her being forced to move back home.

Needing a break from her mom, Jen heads up to Emil Blonsky's retreat. At the same time, Pug and Nikki manage to infiltrate an Intelligencia meeting where it's revealed that, as expected, Todd is "HulkKing." The Abomination shows up (he's not affiliated with the group; he's just been hired to give them a motivational talk), and it's then Jen arrives on the scene as well.

Todd reveals that he got Josh to steal her blood and proceeds to transform into a Hulk. Abomination protects her from Intelligencia before Titania busts through a wall and The Hulk enters through the roof, mistakenly taking aim at Emil.

With that, Jen hits the pause button and questions what exactly is going on. Breaking out of her own show and into the Disney+ menu, she argues with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's writers before heading to Marvel Studios to confront Kevin Feige. There, she finds a robot called "K.E.V.I.N." who is revealed to be responsible for the MCU as we know it.

We get an X-Men mention and hints that this story will continue in a movie, but Jen argues that it makes more sense for the finale to be more about her journey - accepting herself as Jen and She-Hulk - than wrapping up all those loose ends (pointing out that the whole blood storyline feels very similar to the Super Soldier Serum).

The Hulk, Abomination, Hulk-Todd, and Titania are all deleted from that battle, and we then immediately pick up with the members of the Intelligencia being arrested. Emil is sent back to jail for transforming and breaking his parole, Charlie Cox returns as Daredevil - as Jen requested - and The Hulk shows up with an unexpected guest at the family barbeque.

The finale ends with She-Hulk back fighting the good fight in court, vowing to be a superhero as well as a lawyer.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law definitely jumped the shark with its finale, paying off all those lingering plot threads and the show's big mystery...by pretty much just forgetting about them. Fans hoping for The Leader to be revealed as the mastermind here are likely to be disappointed, and while this subverting of expectations was the point (because the finale really didn't need to end with a massive brawl like most MCU projects), it feels perhaps a tad too silly.

After all, in a Phase that's felt disconnected and inconsistent, taking a subplot that's been a huge talking point for eight weeks and throwing it out of the window might be beneficial to Jen's story in some respects, but to the wider MCU...we're not sure it was the best idea. Honestly, it feels like another Ralph Bohner situation.

What did you think about the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale

I will say I definitely didn’t expect the finale to go that way.

I mostly loved it and it’s sure to get a few re-watches for the last 10/15 minutes alone ( I was really hoping for Feige to show up! haha).

It kind of reminded me of the finale for The 94’ Spider-Man animated series.

The only thing I guess that I'll nitpick is that the series set up a few things with the villains that didn’t end up paying off, aside from being another jok, but the way it lead to the ultimate 4th wall break this episode was great!

Also i loved the opening. Best homage ever!

@UniqNo - Also, marvel poking fun at themself with the VFX issues they've been having this year was quite cleverly done! i only wish Feige would have delivered those lines himself! lol

@UniqNo -

Pretty sure the little cap above KEVIN's lenses was a reference to that constant piece of Feige's attire. Also, the African drums after he mentioned that the VFX was on the next project was a legit lol moment.

@DrReedRichards - I did laugh out loud at that! haha. I hope somehow they manage to include She-Hulk into deadpool 3 with all the 4th wall stuff! it would be great moment, even if it only last a couple minutes! but i want the real Kevin to show up haha.

@UniqNo - I thought, considering the recent reports of the mistreatment of VFX artists, the jokes were in poor taste

@Knightrider - I can see that as well, but they've at least acknowledged it now.

Maybe I'm reading too deep into it, but them saying that in the episode coupled with all the recent delays maybe means they realised they can't expect the VFX artist to keep up with the Marvel machine and are now slowing things down a bit.

17 releases in phase 4 by the time it’s done in only a couple years (3 if you include the year covid shut things down) is a hell of a lot compared to the 11 we got in 3/4 years of phase 3.

@Knightrider - one could argue acknowledging them shows they aren’t completely tone deaf and may try to do better…

@UniqNo - It was an awesome season, and a very entertaining Finale. well done Marvel.

@UniqNo - They made a joke about them overworking people. Why is that clever?
Conquistador
Conquistador - 10/13/2022, 7:48 AM
@dagenspear - The fact that they acknowledged those issues in one of their shows while breaking the 4th wall and also promoting their next release.

Marvel Studios aren't known to usually respond to those types of reports and they kind of did in their own way. We should also remember, those people aren't slaves, their employed.

I can't say i know the in's and out's of their jobs but i'd take an educated guess that it's not as black and white as people make it out to be.

@UniqNo - they could avoided all of that had they paid these people what they were worth and not worked them to death.

They tried to cut corners and save money by using less talented visual effects as artists. I know this for a fact because one of my good friends works at Disney. They are rumbling. Revenue arguments are irrelevant. The content blows

@JackRussoff3 - Again, no one is "FORCED" to work to death, their's a contract that you sign should you have capcity to make that decision. I don't doubt some of the pressured work environments your friend has mentioned but if you're not getting paid what you're worth, then move you're train along. Easier said that done i know, but otherwise, i'm saying they've kind of listened and acknoweldged it. I also feel some of those delays are in part due to this. We'll never know what's really going on unless there's an investigation but till then it is what it is.

Also, you said in another comment "You killed the Marvel universe "Kevin"

that's quite funny on so many levels.

@DrReedRichards - Funny story about the cap, apparently Feige first objected to it because he thought a robot wearing a cap doesn't make sense.

@heisei24 -

But it added so much flair for something so small! It stays, Kevin!

@UniqNo -
Ended up marathoning the series and its brilliant thanks to Episode 9.

It's a massive middle finger to every single person who praised this show, validating and acknowledging every single critique levied against it.

Episode 1-3 are spent degrading and hating males
Episode 4-6 are spent degrading and hating females
Episode 7-8 are spent degrading and hating superheroes
Episode 9 is spent degrading and hating anyone who liked Marvel, especially She-Hulk

It's great seeing such an extreme critique of the kind of suck-ups who'll just praise this trash. The show was intentionally bad, does not save the show from being bad, but I'm loving it how it's taking the piss out of everyone who praised it.

@UniqNo - Sounds, to me, like they just made fun of the problems they may have causes while not actually fixing them in any way that I've seen and using this show as a promotion.

Their employment isn't justification for their mistreatment.

I think that's reaching to defend a billion dollar corporation.

@UniqNo - I'm actually extremely tired of the lazy trope of "calling out" what your film/show is messing up. It's not self depricaring and aware. It's a lazy way to excuse away their short comings.

@TheEddy - I get the show isn't for everybody, i just liked it more than i thought i would. Not a 10 out of 10, but i appreciated the self critque. It's not like it's been done before with Marvel, as far as i know.

@dagenspear - It's a dam sight better than flat out ignoring it. That's my opinion at least.
OmegaBlack13
OmegaBlack13 - 10/13/2022, 11:43 AM
@UniqNo - If a VFX company turns down a Marvel contract or quits it because they are getting overworked in a way that their contract doesn’t specify, usually for no extra money, they will be black balled. Unions exist for a reason and VFX teams haven’t been allowed to unionize. Yes it’s still a “choice” but being unable to work in the field you have trained in for years kind of effectively makes it not. I know you say it’s not as black and white as people say, but if some of those people are the actual ones who are involved in this, and they aren’t on the side of the billion dollar company, I think that we should just listen to them.
OmegaBlack13
OmegaBlack13 - 10/13/2022, 11:44 AM
@Scarilian - I don’t think you’re being sarcastic which is scary because this is an insane reading of this show.
Scarilian

@OmegaBlack13 -
It's insane, but it's the accurate and narrator intended one the series portrays. It gives justification to every aspect, otherwise the ending just ignores 8 episodes.
Conquistador
Conquistador - 10/13/2022, 12:59 PM
@OmegaBlack13 - I never sId the complaints weren't justified, but rationalising 'worked to near death' is a stretch.

All I'm saying is that I liked and it's good that marvel acknowledges out loud their own short comings when it comes to that topic. Even if it's tongue in cheek.

I'm allowed to have an opinion, am I not?
