SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW's Premiere Was A Smash Hit On Disney+, More Than Doubling MS. MARVEL Viewership

The first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, "A Normal Amount of Rage," premiered on Disney+ last Thursday, and the show is officially a smash hit!

Samba TV, a service that tracks viewership numbers in the U.S., has reported that the series premiere drew 1.5 million households in the Live+3 window. These numbers should always be taken with a pinch of salt because not every household is measured and these aren't global figures; however, this is still more than double Ms. Marvel's 662,000 premiere viewers.

"Disney+ delivered hulk-sized viewership with the premiere of its latest Marvel program She-Hulk," says Cole Strain, Vice President of Measurement Products at Samba TV. "While recent female-led superhero series have been marked by lower viewership, or in the case [of] Batgirl, were canceled altogether, She-Hulk reversed this trend, more than doubling the premiere weekend viewership of the most recent Marvel series, Ms. Marvel, and delivered numbers on par with Moon Knight."

"Stars like Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo helped make this a big hit with Gen-Z millennials, Black, and Hispanic households that all over-indexed in their viewership."

The presence of Mark Ruffalo's Hulk no doubt increased interest in the show, as did that "Hulk" branding. While the Jade Giant hasn't starred in his own movie since 2008's The Incredible Hulk, he remains one of the MCU's most popular characters thanks to blockbusters like Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame

Tatiana Maslany also has a large fanbase after starring in Orphan Black, while reviews for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law were overwhelmingly positive. Marvel Studios clearly has a hit on its hands with this Disney+ series, and we anticipate Jennifer Walters having a bright future in the MCU moving forward.

@Radders - how'd moon knight do better? This is a spin off of a legacy avenger with that avenger in the show. I'm expecting a big drop tomorrow.

Yep, tied second lowest with Female Hawkeye series.

@Origame - I honestly don't know, on paper Moon Knight should have done much worse - the trailers for that were better but still.

Bet everybody was too busy watching Kenobi to give Ms. Marvel even a thought.

Anyway, that's good. And not surprising, since a lot of people wanna see strong female leads after all.

How does that compare to initial viewership of the other mcu shows? Legit wondering as I don’t keep up with numbers on shows and I thought mrs marvel was kind of a flop on views.

Here's a link

Ms Marvel was significantly down from other D+ Marvel entries. Cultural differences aside I attribute it more to the teen nature of the show rather than being centered on an adult character.

@Goldboink - Yeah, I'm going to go with the obvious and say that Ms. Marvel is down because it's a show about a Muslim girl. At least half of Americans wouldn't watch that show.

@Goldboink - weird…it’s tied for second lowest which I did not imagine it’d be. I was thinking it’d be the highest

You certainly can't discount that but I'm as woke as they come and I just lost interest about half way through the show. The wife took about 20 minutes to lose interest in the first episode. It just wasn't geared for adults and that was clear from the trailers and promo material. I would be curious as to the viewership globally though.

This show had the second lowest viewership behind Ms Marvel with a universal loved comic book character ( She-Hulk), and an original Avenger. This article is misleading in my opinion. It wasn’t a “hit”

It was a lot of fun. And the best that Banner/Hulk has been in a while.

Tatiana Maslany is pretty good in the role and she has great chemistry with Mark Ruffalo. However, Jen Walters trivializing Bruce's trauma was the real dick move I think. I wonder if marvel forgot that Bruce banner was abused as a child, (dealt with much worse in the comics) , so the Hulk wasnt really an overnight thing. Dumbing down stuff for the audience really makes these characters lose their nuance and hence Jen comes across as horrible and Bruce comes across as a pushover. I liked the sibling dynamic but her getting her point across by belittling her cousin was not cool. I blame this on the writers not knowing Bruce Banner's backstory. The blood transfer thing was somewhat clunky too.

@Ojeet78 - I just want to point out he tried suicide (mind you he did it when it was Norton and only briefly talked about as ruffalo) which always thought was a huge aspect of the character that was never touched upon. His potential father in-law also wanted to capture and experiment on him which caused his life to be constantly be on the run preventing him from being able to have a normal life in society.

@Ojeet78 - I'm very confused as to why I keep seeing people say MCU Bruce was abused as a child. That hasn't been mentioned in a single Marvel movie
soberchimera
soberchimera - 8/24/2022, 11:15 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - It hasn't, but the fact remains that his time as Hulk has been far, far more traumatic than Jen's, who is able to control her transformation and get back to her normal life after a short amount of time.

@soberchimera -

Right, but Jen's point had nothing to do with who had the "more traumatic" life. She was talking about who was better at controlling their anger, and specifically explaining that to her cousin who was essentially saying she needed to 'learn' about controlling it before he would allow her to have her life back

I have no idea why people keep conflating her statement that she's better at controlling anger with a comparison between who's had a harder life

Ojeet78 - 8/24/2022, 11:30 AM
@soberchimera - yeah exactly. I just thought the exchange was badly written. I was perfectly fine with Jen being a better hulk , they didnt have to overexplain that. The drawn out fight between the siblings made no sense. She could have simply told him that she loves him and could do this Hulk stuff over the weekend , mainly cause she has a day job as well. Also as much as i loved the sibling dynamics , where was Jen or anyone from the family when Ruffalo mentioned in the Avengers that he tried to kill himself once but the Hulk spat the bullet out. Doesnt add up.
