Vincent D'Onofrio is a very active presence on Twitter, frequently interacting with fans and answering any Marvel-related questions to the best of his ability. The Magnificent Seven actor has already confirmed that he won't be reprising the role of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin for The Defenders, but a lot of people expected him to return for another showdown with Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle after their brutal confrontation in Daredevil season 2.
Well, even though that will almost certainly still happen someday, it's not going to go down in Netflix's solo Punisher series.
While it's always possible D'onofrio is simply trying to throw fans off the scent (he did make a surprise appearance in Daredevil season 2, after all), his reponse does seem pretty definitive.
