There Are No Plans For Shows Like WANDAVISION And FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER To Be Released On Blu-ray

Those of you hoping to add the Phase 4 TV shows to your collection of Marvel Cinematic Universe Blu-rays are sure to be disappointed by the news that there are no plans for them to debut on that platform.

While studios definitely appear to be moving away from physical media, there are plenty of movie fans out there who take great pride in their Blu-ray collections. That's particularly the case with a franchise like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios has previously released highly sought after collections of its various Phases.

However, if and when an eventual Phase 4 set finds its way online, it won't include the TV shows that have hit Disney+ this year (such as WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Loki).

In a recent Q&A on TV Line, Editor-in-Chief Matt Webb Mitovich was asked if these shows will eventually see a physical release, and responded: "Ooh, interesting question, especially for those who love their physical media. Alas, I am hearing that at this time, there are no plans to do so. But never say never!"

TV shows like these and The Mandalorian are part of what make subscribing to Disney+ such a desirable prospect. Putting them on Blu-ray would certainly generate some extra income for Disney, but it probably wouldn't be worth losing any potential subscribers (unless the release window is years instead of months).

Some streaming series are eventually released on Blu-ray, but most aren't. As a result, we're definitely not expecting to see these MCU series on physical media for the foreseeable future.

How do you guys feel about Disney+ being the only place you can watch these MCU shows?

Not surprising. I suppose Disney wants as much people as possible to have Disney+ subscribers, so physical releases would just be it's own competitor

That sucks, guess my Marvel blu-rays are gonna be incomplete.
I mean I expected that for the Netflix stuff but the Marvel Studios stuff is a bit disappointing.

@ThePott - But some of the Netflix stuff was released tho right?

@ThePott - @Nightwing1015 - Correct. I have steelbooks of AoS S1-S3, Daredevil, Luke Cage, etc. However, they did stop after some time and AoS S4 onward and DD S3 never got steelbook releases. They did get normal releases tho.

@Tonic24k @Nightwing1015 - Hey guys, well aware that some Netflix stuff was released, I meant more that they never finished releasing runs of the Marvel Netflix series. I don't think any Marvel show has been released in FULL on blu-ray aside from Agent Carter. That's what I meant.

@ThePott - Then yes, that is correct.

Okay this is horse doo doo! Your stupid app has a max bitrate of 16mb/s, a simple bluray disc puts out around 50 for me, 4k is over 100.. you release physical media like 6 months after its been on disney ffs

Not surprised, bluray and dvds are already becoming dead technology. Everything's been going digital for years now.

I'm not surprised, but still a little disappointed as my MCU collection feels a bit incomplete without them.

Booo hiss!

Some people actually like to own and add the property to their collection. Guess we fans have no choice but to sail the high seas now for physical copies (though i do have Disney+)

Frankly this sucks.

I totally get wanting subscribers for D+. I get it, it's a business decision and a smart one. But it's also a slap in the face to many fans.
Many people like to add shows like WandaVision, The Mandalorian etc. to their collections.

It's not like Disney and Pixar movies aren't released physically so why not these shows?
Maybe just put a specific timeframe on it like say: Every new season (or standalone show) will get a physical release 2 or 3 years after their release on D+.

There are so many new shows coming so people would most likely keep their subscribtion anyway even if they own physical copies of older shows/seasons.

I can't justify buying physical media of the MCU anymore when it's all on Disney plus which I already pay for. But it's a shame because I used to take a lot of pride in my movie collection

It's a weird decision seeing as we're getting the Star Wars series released.

Not surprising but still sad. I have every movie and the ABC and Netflix shows that we’re released so it’s sad that I’ll I’ll never really own the whole of the MCU again

Even though I do not yet have every single film on Blu ray I still look forward to having an entire wall dedicated to MCU content.

It will happen eventually. "No plans right now" means they're analyzing numbers and when they figure out the best time, they'll put it out on physical media. This is a somewhat unprecedented market. There have been a lot of twists and turns so there is a lot to reevaluate.

Once Disney has monetized the maximum they can make with the Marvel shows on Disney+ they WILL look at other ways to monetize the shows in the future. The shows will eventually make it to physical media at some point. But NO ONE should expect them until a couple years from now. The shows are popular and there is a demand ALREADY for physical media. If Disney knows they can make a profit they'll release the shows when the timing is right.

Umbrella Academy season 1 comes out tomorrow. That series came out 2 YEARS ago. Netflix has released Stranger Things season 1 & 2 on physical media. Maybe we'll get a season 3 later in the year once season 4 gets closer. POPULAR streaming shows do get released but releases most likely will take time to happen. And knowing Disney's past with physical media, any streaming show release most likely will have limited availability before being locked back up in the vault.

I'm an avid physical media guy. I've been collecting films and TV shows since the mid-eighties from VHS to DVD and now Blu-ray. I'm not concerned at the moment that these shows will never get released. There is one simple truth. Disney is company designed to make profit. As a company they won't leave money on the table when they know they can make a profit. I expect once WandaVision, F@tWS, Loki are no longer driving forces for people to flock to Disney+ and there are other Marvel shows for folks to keep their subscription for, we'll see the earlier Marvel streaming shows hit Blu-ray.

Shame just think of the extra money they could make by selling them on Blu-Ray.
