The Marvel Cinematic Universe's television debut has clearly paid off for Disney+, because Marvel Studios picked up a massive 28 Emmy nominations today. 23 of those are for WandaVision, with the other five going to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (Loki is still streaming, so obviously didn't make the cut for the 2021 ceremony).
However, while WandaVision picked up major nominations, the majority of those for the drama series starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan were in technical categories. Aside from a nod for Don Cheadle as a guest star, the rest were for sound, editing, visual effects, and stunts.
WandaVision picked up a nomination for "Outstanding Limited Series," while Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Kathryn Hahn have all been recognised for their acting performances. That's honestly not a surprise given how great they were over the course of those nine episodes, but it's good to see them acknowledged for their work in such a significant way.
Why the same can't be said for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier cast is up for debate! The series received positive reviews and featured a lot of strong messages, but clearly didn't strike a chord with the organisers behind the Emmys in the same way WandaVision did.
