WANDAVISION Showrunner Jac Schaeffer Addresses Major Goodner Being Revealed As The Aerospace Engineer

WandaVision's aerospace engineer wasn't Reed Richards, Blue Marvel, or any other big name character, and showrunner Jac Schaeffer has now weighed in on Major Goodner being Monica Rambeau's mysterious ally.

As soon as Monica Rambeau mentioned having a friend who's an aerospace engineer in WandaVision, fans immediately started speculating as to who that might be. Surely, John Krasinski was going to show up as Reed Richards, right? Failing that, Marvel Studios must have secretly cast an actor as Blue Marvel.

Well, none of that panned out, and even Kevin Feige has admitted to being surprised by the speculation it generated online. Now, WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaeffer has weighed in.

Confirming that it was indeed Major Goodner who delivered that vehicle in the seventh episode, the writer explained to The Daily Princetonian where the real-life inspiration for that character came from.

"You know, the character that Monica [Rambeau] met on the show that everybody thought was going to be Reed Richards, the engineer? That character is Major Goodner, and she’s named after one of my friends, Aly Goodner, that I went to Princeton with, who’s part of this group."

"I made that choice because that character represents every time one of these women has come through for me and every time they’ve been good at their job," Schaeffer continued. "It became this hilarious thing for me that everybody was like, 'It’s going to be Reed Richards, it’s going to be some important man,' and I’m like, 'No, it’s just a lady who’s awesome at what she does and who will be there for her friends.'"

You can't really argue with that, and we, as fans, only really have ourselves for blame for getting excited over something that was just a throwaway line.

How are you feeling about the "big" aerospace engineer reveal in WandaVIsion now?

Just wondering, for posterity, how "I know an aerospace engineer" became Reed Richards. It seemed to bubble up from multiple places at the same time.

Did one person start that or was it a spontaneous eruption of wishful thinking?

''No, it’s just a lady who’s awesome at what she does and who will be there for her friends''

Okay yeah, this is something I can get behind. Still was hoping to see her revealed as a Skrull though.

It seemed like Teyonah led this particular bit of speculation but we all fell into the speculation. The week to week release led to some big time theories because of the slow burn nature of the show. I can’t say it wasn’t fun to speculate but it’s best to just watch everything unfold and not obsess over the every detail

I did find it funny in the Kevin Smith interview with Matt Shakman, he talked about how getting that vehicle that rams into the hex was a pain to build and they were excited to build up to it in the show only for the theories around it to be Reed Richards and so on.

Idk, I feel like that disconnect between people who work on a show or film, etc... who might know it's not a big thing because they made it and know whats coming, and the audience who don't have the bts context and the show making it seem like it's inadvertently making it seem like they're building up to something big, overall really interesting.

There was a lot of that with Wandavision from how the people involved have talked about it. The whole, "we just did xyz thinking it'll not be a big thing because we know where it's going" only for it to be blown up by the audience (e.g Dottie, the engineer, etc...) must feel kinda weird.

That whole debacle of everyone thinking Reed Richards or someone special was coming on WandaVision for a brief cameo are the same people speculating Nightmare or Mephisto through the whole series. Sometimes what fan theorists call Easter eggs are just rotten eggs being fed to people who are truly hoping for more.
Let’s hope anyone that’s a character of significance gets more than a cameo in a Disney+ series as their first appearance in the MCU.

Guy is not a gender neutral term. They gave Monica the stupidest lines.

@Mrtoke - it is gender neutral in some cultures in plural form as in "you guys" or "those guys" but it's usually not.
