WANDAVISION Star Elizabeth Olsen Shares Her Thoughts On Marvel Studios' Possible YOUNG AVENGERS Plan

All the signs appear to be pointing to Marvel assembling the Young Avengers at some point in the not too distant future, and WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen has now shared what she knows about that...

WandaVision introduced us to Billy and Tommy Maximoff, two characters better known to comic book fans as Young Avengers members Wiccan and Speed. Elsewhere, the likes of Ms. Marvel, Stature, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Kid Loki, Eli Bradley, and America Chavez have been introduced - or soon will be - and that has to be a sign they'll soon assemble as a team, right?

During a recent Q&A, Emmy nominee Elizabeth Olsen was asked whether the inclusion of the Twins in WandaVision could be an indication that Marvel Studios is building to a Young Avengers project.

"I have no idea. I don't even know if...actually, if you even ask [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige that, I think he'll honestly say he doesn't know," she explained. "They really plan phases at a time, and then after those complete, they move onto the next phase."

As for whether she thinks the Young Avengers will eventually come together in the MCU, Olsen added: "It seems like from my perspective that that could be a possibility, but I don't think they have a real plan for that yet. But they keep all their options open."

It would certainly be a bold move on Marvel's part to put the spotlight on the Young Avengers, especially as many fans are used to seeing big names like Captain America and Thor in the team. However, the whole point of introducing these heroes is to likely set the stage for a new era of storytelling with younger actors stepping up to take the place of those who have been around since Phase 1.

Would you like to see a Young Avengers movie or TV show in the not too distant future?

"They really plan phases at a time, and then after those complete, they move onto the next phase."

Well that can't be right. If that were true then any time a phase ends we wouldn't get another movie within a year, or in some cases, the same year.

I believe Feige has said several times that they plan at least 5 years ahead. It doesn't matter when phases end. They know what's coming next. They don't plan phases then wait until those phases end before planning the next phase. That would be silly. Sure they know where a phase will begin and end, but they already plan well past the end of a phase as a well. Phase 4 is only getting started yet we know future phases will have Blade, Moon Knight, the F4, and X-Men.

If Feige is going to do a Young Avengers project it may just be too early for him to know where he wants to slot it. That's all.

@CorndogBurglar - well not really. After planning out a phase and putting films into production they start work on planning the next phase. Basically while we're currently getting many different phase 4 movies, they're planning phase 5.

@CorndogBurglar - Agreed. I seem to recall reading a while ago (early-mid 2000's) that in the Marvel offices they had a roadmap going into 2028. Like they had a wall in one of the offices where they had this whole John Nash "A Beautiful Mind" kind of thing with all the different movies, characters, etc. all mapped out. So, yeah, maybe what Lizzie says is based on what she knows, but He Who Feige knows more I suspect.

@StSteven - And yes, I am officially making "Feige" a verb now. "Feige: (verb) To purposely obfuscate or otherwise make unclear any current and/or future plans for a particular subject. Examples: "Honey, sure I'll Feige the yard work", or "Listen, I think our relationship is going great, but I just want to Feige it for a while", or "Yeah, Boss, I'm going to go ahead and Feige that next project, mmm-kay?". I'll see myself out now.

@Origame - It just depends on how we take the word "planning". Like, what kind of detail?

Because again, Phase 4 hasn't ended, but I'm sure they are done planning it out. So they are likely still planning Phase 5. But we already know projects that likely won't come out until Phase 6. Which means they are still planning Phase 5, but also laying groundwork and plans for Phase 6 at the same time.

@Origame - For instance, it's a safe bet that the X-Men won't appear until at least Phase 6. But anyone that thinks they aren't already planning for that is crazy. Mainly because Feige already hinted that they were about a year or two ago when they announced the Phase 4 slate.

@CorndogBurglar - it hasn't ended, yes, but it's all planned out for this phase. We know the movies/shows coming out already, and that comes with notes on what they need to include.

As for laying the groundwork for future phases, you're making that too complicated compared to what it really is. All they have to do is keep opportunities open. Just look at the phases we already have. No one knew what was gonna happen with Thanos until the Russo brothers came in despite being teased in the avengers, and joss whedon abruptly leaving the project after age of ultron.

@Origame - I'm not making it too difficult, I'm keeping it in lines with the article and her comments. She claims that if you were to ask Feige about the Young Avengers that not even he would know of they are going to introduce them, because they don't start planning future phases until the current phase is over.

But we already know many Phase 5 movies and shows, as well as at least one phase 6 movie. You can't tell me that Kevin Feige doesn't know of they are going to introduce the Young Avengers or not. I'm not saying they necessarily have everything planned out story wise for them, but he's gotta know if they are coming or not. And she's claiming he probably doesn't. Which is nonsense.

@CorndogBurglar - yeah they know stuff like we want an x men movie here. They don't know how Said x men movie will impact the greater mcu or what big phase wide story it'll be a part of.

As long as they don’t officially call them the young avengers I guess it could be cool. The problem with these movie universe characters is they actually have to age…
Oskir
Oskir - 7/18/2021, 7:05 AM
@Shivermetimbers - The first roaster of Avengers was already « old »
Tony Stark and Bruce Banner were in there 40s
Hawkeye close to the 40s
Thor and Captain really old

So even if the Young Avengers are in their 20s they would still be pretty young

Well, if they don't do the young avengers soon, it will wind up being the OLD avengers. Ha! Amarite? Who's with me?

ElricReturns - 7/18/2021, 11:35 AM
@WackyBantha - they should just call it New Avengers since they will likely age into adulthood.

They seem to be forming The Young Avengers through the TV shows, they could even introduce Iron Lad because he is a variant of Kang and would fit quite nicely into their multiverse storyline.
YonnyLayna
YonnyLayna - 7/18/2021, 8:59 AM
@marvel72 - It could be on Antman3 ora Loki Ss2 given Kang comes from 31th Century and I doubt Armor Wars deal with Time travel

KnifeWasTooSlow - 7/18/2021, 11:55 AM
@marvel72 - If Kang is a variant they could still make the Iron Man 3 kid the younger alternate version.

Feige really be sending these actors out to make fools of themselves. It's no coincidence they've introduced Wiccan and Speed, Eli Bradley, aged up Cassie Lang, and are about to give us both America Chavez and Kate Bishop within a year. But yeah, no Young Avengers. 🥴

To bad, of the TV divide I would like sone young guys like Cloak & Dagger ir Runaways that aré not derivative from the Avengers.

''if you even ask [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige that, I think he'll honestly say he doesn't know"

Oh I do think he knows, he just gives another beautiful non-answer. I'm sure there is already some plan for the coming five years in place.

Young Avengers can be a series, don’t waste the time and resources on a film.

I preffer them as a tv show.
This way, the popular/adult avengers are on the big screen, while the young ones get 6-10 episodes on tv, so all audiences are well served.
