Marvel Studios was originally going to include the MCU's Sorcerer Supreme in WandaVision's series finale, but plans changed, and the two characters will now cross paths in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Wanda Maximoff's transformation into the Scarlet Witch looks set to be crucial to Phase 4, with the Doctor Strange sequel promising to be an important next step in her journey. However, it wasn't one Elizabeth Olsen was clued into when production on her Disney+ series began.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter, the actress revealed that it wasn't until they returned to finish the series during the pandemic that she learned about her role in Sam Raimi's movie.
"I really wish that there was a plan that someone shared with me a little sooner," Olsen laughed. "I found out about Doctor Strange 2 and what the story was before we went for the last eight weeks of filming WandaVision during the pandemic. I found out in, like, August, and then I wrapped WandaVision on a Wednesday and went to England Friday."
Olsen spent the rest of 2020 in England, and only returned home last month when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wrapped filming. "It was a lot," she admitted. "And then I just got home, like, 10 days ago. So it was a long time being in England. It was a long process."
Given the way WandaVision ended, the Scarlet Witch is likely going to scour the Multiverse to find Tommy and Billy. That could lead to a clash with Stephen Strange, and it's entirely possible the movie will wrap up with her either getting some sort of happy ending...or becoming one of the MCU's new big bads. If that's the case, bring on a House of M adaptation!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released in theaters on March 25, 2022.
