Heroes canceled by NBC

Heroes canceled by NBC

It's Official. Heroes is over after four seasons of good vs. evil, and those always crippling roller-coaster ratings, NBC has officially canceled its once-groundbreaking series... er... X-Men rip-off.

The news is nonetheless shocking. NBC’s drama Heroes won’t be back for a fifth season. The beleaguered drama only averaged 6.5 million viewers this year. It last aired on Feb. 8, when it only brought in a mere 4.4 million.

The show never managed to recapture those stellar ratings from its critically-acclaimed first season, when it averaged a whopping 14.5 million. There has been talk that NBC may air a movie that allows the producers to wrap up the story, but nothing has been set in stone. NBC will announce its fall lineup to advertisers Monday in New York.

Not surprised. The show had so much potential but they just weren't able to continue what they had in the first season. Sucks.

I'm gonna miss this show. Despite its flaws, I've always enjoyed every season. At least its getting wrapped up.

Well, if they did so much wrong in the past few seasons and didn't fix so much when it had the chance to in season four.

Especially with Peter Petrelli.

First, Peter loses his old empathic mimicry power by having it taken away by his own father from a hug (seriously), and then he takes the formula and gets a new, more limited version called ability replication. Hiro Nakamura also lost his powers to Peter's dad but was able to get his powers back because of Matt Parkman Jr., so why not just do the same for Peter? Secondly, Peter forgot all about his girlfriend Caitlin from season two after she was stuck in alternate 2008. After Peter stopped the virus from being released in the season two finale episode, why didn't he try to look for her before Nathan's press conference to out himself to the public?

Also, too much about the fourth season of "Heroes" just disappointed the heck out of me.

Hiro Nakamura went from having his powers be a virus to suddenly having an inoperable brain tumor and he was acting on his "things-to-do" bucket list while some of his friends tried to find a way to get rid of the tumor. Well, it turns out Hiro's inoperable tumor wasn't so bad, because it WAS successfully removed in surgery, and his powers weren't such a virus after all because he was able to safely use them with total control after the tumor was removed.

Nathan Petrelli stayed dead after Sylar killed him in the finale of season three. Say what you will, but I like Nathan and the show's episodes that aired after his death weren't the same.

Sylar went from "I want my body back" to "I have my body back, but I can't kill because I got freaked out by Hiro telling me five years ago I'll be killed and die alone, unloved and unmourned" to "I'm a hero and I'm going to repent for all the murders I've committed."

Noah Bennet went from the shady, behind the scenes agent you love to hate that was supposed to help run the new Company in the season three finale to a stay-at-home bum who couldn't make much more than cereal for dinner and felt bad about what he helped make Matt do to Sylar's mind. He also had a brief relationship/friendship with Tracy that went nowhere in a few mere episodes, and spent much of his time with his old partner in tracking down Samuel and his circus gang.

Claire Bennet, who from the pilot episode on just wanted to have a normal life, stupidly decides in the final episode aired to out herself to the press by climbing up a Ferris Wheel, diving off to the ground, and then healing from her injuries in front of the cameras. Uh-huh. How normal do you think her life will be like after THAT becomes public knowledge?

There's more, but I won't go into any further details. If "Heroes" continues with a movie, TV movie, mini-series, special, whatever, I'll gladly see what they do next. But for now, I'm not surprised the show got cancelled. It's a shame. "Heroes" deserved better treatment.

Sad but long overdue!

They simply blew their great first year
by doing nothing but destroy everything
they built in season one! They changed
characters personas ridiculously!

[frick] all of you lol. I liked this show from beginning to end. Season 3 with Peter and Nathan's dad as the bad guy was the best season (it actually had emotion). And I like Sylar as a good guy actually.

Thats to bad, but im not surprised. Season 1 was awesome, then each season after that just slowly went downhill. They didnt really seem to know where they were going with it.

The writer's strike did destroy Heroes. It just couldn't live up to the first season. The budget cuts just added to the misery. Sad but expected news.

YOU KNOW IT STARTED WITH WATERING DOWN PETER'S POWERS..THEN MESSING UP HIRO..EVERYTHING WENT TO CRAP AFTER SLOWLY, PLUS I NOTICED THE SPECIAL EFFECTS STARTED GETTING SPARATIC...THEN THE ONE FINALE WITH PETER NATHAN AND SYLAR BATTLING AND ALL WE GOT TO SEE WAS CLAIRE PEEPING THROUGH THE DOOR AND FLASHES OF LIGHT...NOW THAT WAS A RIP OFF..

I joke about this show but WTF!? Crappy way to end it, and that ABC did it to make room for the new one coming out about the family that crashes in th amazon and gets superpowers? F%ck you NBC, F%ck you in the a$$.

THANK GOD!

This show was one of the crappiest pieces of crap on television.

You can't blame the writers strike in season 2 because they had TWO seasons to get it right! Not to mention half of the scripts for season 2 were probably already written BEFORE the strike!

It truly is a blessing that NBC decided to cut their loses and move on because NOBODY was watching it!

Thank you NBC for cancelling such a lame show. Let it die and fade into obscurity!

Onward to better quality television!

It's to bad this show was canceled. I guess i am one of the people that helped with it's demise though. I watched the first season really likes stopped watching into 2 and none of 3. But then I started watching it again at the beginning of the 4th season. I have to admit I really like the last season. I really liked the whole "circus" idea to the show. Oh well I hope they do not leave this story opened ended.

This sucks cause I loved Heroes, I really hope they do a 2 hour movie special so they can really end the series well. And on the other hand this new show The Cape sounds interesting, maybe it can be its replacemet.
InstigatorGIRL
InstigatorGIRL - 5/15/2010, 6:40 AM
@LEEE Maybe with season 1 but anything after that is trumped by Supernatural.

Also let me just say that I absolutely hated Sylar as a hero. He was a bad ass villain and they ruined him with all the 180's they made him pull.

"It truly is a blessing that NBC decided to cut their loses and move on because NOBODY was watching it!"

That's actually untrue. No one was watching the episodes as they aired on NBC, but it was in fact the most illegally downloaded show, as well as the #1 show in DVR viewings and one of the most watched shows on NBC.com.Seems the show still had legions of fans, it's just no one was willing to watch it as it aired.

I really think they should have moved Heroes to SyFy or USA for a half season. That's what they did with Criminal Intent. The ratings were sliding, so they moved it to USA to share production costs.I think it's lasted 3 more seasons.Even if Heroes had about 5 million viewers, it would be more than any other show on SyFy.
