You probably don't need us to tell you that Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so with that in mind, you may already feel like you know how this Disney+ series connects to the wider Galaxy Far, Far Away.

However, a new rumour shared by Making Star Wars (via SFFGazette.com) has shed a little light on how this show builds on what we saw in that movie and the original trilogy. Cassian Andor may have ultimately helped steal those all-important Death Star plans, but it appears that superweapon crosses his radar quite a few years before the fateful mission that ends with his death.

The site explains that the show will feature former engineers and scientists who have been enslaved by the Empire and forced to work on their sinister projects like, for example, the Death Star's construction.

It's said we'll be taken to one of these brutal, hellish assembly lines, with Cassian going undercover as a prisoner. He's there to extract intel from an agent, but will learn that this factory is part of a secret project the Empire is working on. Yes, it's Project Stardust, and the site speculates that this team is devoted to crafting the Kyber Crystals used to unleash those planet-killing blasts.

"Project Stardust" is reportedly referenced, though it's unclear how much that influences what we saw in Rogue One. Either way, whether he realises it or not, it seems Cassian's mission to take down the Empire means he comes across the Death Star years before ever meeting the woman the project is named after, Jyn Erso.

Andor will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. The show premieres on Disney+ on August 31.

Saboteur or not, I still find it funny that Galen would name a weapon of mass destruction after his beloved daughter.

@MyCoolYoung

Honestly I don’t like spoilers but they’re usually pretty hard to avoid if you’re on CBM twitter. I do usually peek the comments on those articles though.

@regularmovieguy - I'm getting that way. I avoided them for Love and Thunder, and it was hard as hell, considering I had become accustomed to seeking them out.

I had to stop lying to myself by saying it didn't affect my viewing pleasures, and it does

@MyCoolYoung - I'm not sure why this site always has the leaks and spoilers. It's why many of us remain here for so many years. This is my AintItCool of the golden years and Josh is our Harry. His reviews aren't as good as Harry Knowles' are ;) but still

@McMurdo - my guess is they report them for the increased traffic? Leak/spoiler culture getting worse and worse

This whole project still falls firmly under the completely unnecessary category for me. His character's journey happens during the movie. So many other things more worth the time and effort of making a show about.

@clornelas - and somehow it will still be better than the majority of Disney SW cuz Gilroy has talent.

If Andor is gonna be anything like the Andor we find in the beginning of Rogue One, he's not gonna find out he's at a facility for Project Stardust specifically at all. He probably get's the intel he needs from the agent, and then just clips the guy.

The show itself looks good, but more Death Star details feel so unnecessary.

The trailer looks great, but damn, Disney screwed things up so royally with The Rise of Skywalker that they have nowhere to go but backwards to mine every bit of OT and PT lore.

A couple of goofy LEGO animated specials are the farthest Disney has dared to go post-Rey Palpatine.

So boring and uninteresting. Didn't like the character in Rogue One at all.

Why does it need to be connected to that?
