After years of rumor and speculation, it looks like Ewan McGregor may have finally signed on to reprise the role of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to Cinelinx, the Doctor Sleep actor has closed his deal with Lucasfilm and will officially return as the legendary Force-wielder in an unspecified Star Wars project, which they believe to be a Disney+ series.

We're not familiar with this source so have no idea how reliable they are, but the story has since been backed-up by MakingStarWars and shared by several other major outlets, so we reckon it's worth covering as a rumor on this slowest of news days.

If this is on the level, chances are we'll get some kind of official announcement at D23 next week. In the meantime, let us know what you think in the comments.

UPDATE: Deadline has now confirmed that McGregor has indeed signed on to return as Kenobi in an untitled Disney+ series.

Slightly OT: Benioff and Weiss deal altered.

"Sources say the Thrones pair is writing a treatment for a Star Wars trilogy and is committed to penning at least one of the films (the original deal was to write all three). It’s unclear if the duo, who also have another feature for Fox/Disney carved out, will do more than just write for Star Wars."

Not sure he needs to return, and I think Star Wars on the whole is vastly overrated - given it is arguably the highest regarded franchise of all time, I think overrated can have a case made for it - but if you get Ewan back in the role, have it done!

He's going to need something to wash the stink of BoP off of him. Sadly, I don't think this is it. Star Wars' arrow is point a little down and what kind of story is there really to tell about the hermit Crazy Old Ben?
