We were told to expect a "galaxy-altering" reveal in the first installment of The Madalorian, and we most definitely got it - although we're still not sure what the introduction of a certain adorable alien means for the ongoing story and the Star Wars universe as a whole.

At the end of the episode, the nameless bounty hunter and his droid rival, IG-11, finally lay eyes of their quarry: a mysterious baby alien (well, actually he's 50!) who appears to be the same species as Yoda. While speaking to Variety (via Collider), series creator/writer Jon Favreau touched on the big reveal, stopping just short of revealing the significance of the character.

"I wanted to surprise people, and I wanted to—well there are bigger arcs that go through the whole season and the whole throw of the show. So as fun as it is to reveal new characters and surprise them, it also fits into a larger narrative about what’s going on in the galaxy after the revolution, and this is an important character."

Favreau went on to say that he was actually surprised they managed to keep the big reveal under wraps in the current spoiler climate.

"You know how hard that is to do that nowadays? And what type of commitment it took from everybody who was on set and from the studio to hide all the clues that people, especially Star Wars fans, normally tap into? Looking into toy catalogues, looking into marketing materials, looking into style guides, photography, and the fact that that secret was kept is incredible."

Could this little fella be directly related to Yoda and share his incredible bond with the force? The second episode of The Mandalorian drops on Disney+ tomorrow, so hopefully we'll get some more answers then. I really don’t see what’s so great about this show. And it’s funny that Star Wars fans will tear this apart after hyping it up like they did with the force awakens

OT:

Looks pretty damn good to me. Affleck looks like he’s going to give a hell of a performance and Gavin O’Conner is a master at underdog/redemption movies. Hope it’s great

For now in the current plot of The Mandalorian it makes sense why some remnants of the Empire want to get their hands on this little creature. A potential "Darth Yoda" sounds like a game changer for them if they end up getting it.

@NinnesMBC - that's the first thing I was thinking...a dark side Yoda. But then others have been talking about cloning him or using his midichlorians to give force power to other people and.... Well my mind just exploded

Baby Yoda is love.

Bay Yoda is life.

The Mandalorian must protect that baby with his life.

Heard a cool theory that the baby is a clone of Yoda. The doctor featured with Herzog has the Kamino cloning facility crest on his uniform as a shoulder patch. Would also explain why he wanted to keep it alive.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I heard a different but similar rumor. The baby isn't an clone of Yoda, but they want the baby to try and make clones of a race that is known to be extremely powerful in the Force.

Either create clones of it, or harvest its midicloreans to strengthen soldiers....like maybe.....Sith Troopers?

This show is boring as hell.
What do y'all like about Star Wars?
I mean, is it me? Even as a kid, I thought this franchise was just nonsense.
