DC Video Games: What We Know and What Is Coming?

Now that E3 is pretty much wrapping up, we have some new info on two new DC titles. These are NOT (as far as I know) the two AAA titles that WB Montreal is working on. How do you feel about Batman Arkham VR and Injustice 2? And what are we still waiting to be told?

With E3 ending tomorrow, I doubt that we will get any new info on any more DC games being released. We found out a week before E3 that Injustice 2 will be coming out and after the Sony conference we were shown the new Batman Arkham VR. We also know that WB Montreal is working on two AAA DC titles which still have yet to be released. How do you guys feel about Injustice and Arkham VR? And what do you think the two unnamed titles are? Here is my little rant on how I feel about this news and how what I HOPE to expect in the future.

Injustice 2

I am very indifferent to these Injustice games on one hand, the story is great we have access to so many characters but on the other hand, its just a fighting game. There is no depth gameplay wise because its strictly a fighting game so after a while it gets old. Also im not a fan of the costumes or the look of most of the heroes...especially Superman who strangely looks like Ed Boon in the new trailer?! Aquaman looks like an ugly Ken doll...totally opposite of what we're about to see in JL but whatever. I can live with it for what it is. As long as DC and WB plan on releasing other games as well. 

Batman Arkham: VR

Here is another game I cant decide how I feel about. In my opinion, I think we are getting beat over the head with Batman. And before you say "Oh you're a Superman fanboy you hate Batman" Yeah I am a Superman fanboy..but I F*&^%$% love Batman!! These Arkham games have put DC on the map for video games and they are amazing. 
BUT. And yes there is a but, we have 4 Arkham games at this point with 5 on the way, Rocksteady released a statement saying they had to come back for "one more" but they keep putting a cap on it, and thats why I feel like they cant let it go. Either continue the series, or switch to another DC hero, cough cough SUPERMAN cough, or be done and let someone else continue. Also the Telltale Batman game is on the way which does seem very different and cool. Arkham VR is hit or miss, we dont know anything besides possibly Nightwing is killing and we have to figure out who did it, and that you can literally put on the cowl. Do we have combat? Gliding? or is just a detective style missions? (Wouldnt mind that) That does seem cool but two Batman games and one is exclusive to PS4? Not digging that. I love me some Batman but when do the other heroes get their shot? Im hoping thats what WB Montreal is working on. 

Two AAA DC Titles from WB Montreal

Now these are the two mystery titles which as far as I know are not either of the games mentioned above. 
There are so many rumors going around that one of these is a Suicide Squad game and the other is a Superman game, also i've heard a Batman game where you are Damian Wayne? eh.

Suicide Squad

I really hope this is just a rumor, I dont see this game being all that fun. It would most likley be a squad based shooter, or a FPS and we already have tons of those. I just cant see this game being a hit anyway I look at it, doesnt mean I wouldnt give it a chance but it doesnt seem that great. Id much rather have a Superman, Flash or Green Arrow game than a SS game.

Superman

This is a must. WB Montreal or Rocksteady need to tackle this. All those easter eggs in Arkham Knight I thought for sure we would see at least a trailer at E3 for this. Was very upset when the Sony conference ended with nothing on Superman. I dont care what anyone says, the game is possible and I hope WB Montreal is working on it as we speak.

DC needs to take their flagship character and get behind him. Stop saying he doesnt sell after one movie and then just go right back to Batman. Get behind him and start pushing out some games ASAP.

Arkham with Damian Wayne

This feels like a stretch but yeah this sounds terrible. I dont want to play as anyone other than Bruce Wayne or Terry Mcguinnes if its a batman game. Batman Beyond would be great but this sounds like they just cant let the Arkham series go, which seems to be the case already. 

How do you guys feel about the two games (Injustice and Arkham VR)? 
And what do you want the two AAA titles to be?

I think a Superman game could be really great, but there are problems that they need to think through. Like Superman has super-speed so all of the battles should be over very quickly which is a problem. Plus there's the invulnerability aspect so they would need to have a clever way of getting around that. Maybe instead of your health depleting and you eventually dying (which wouldn't make any sense) they could have some third party that controls when you respawn. I don't know, i think it could work with a really smart developer. Just don't make it kryptonite again.

@TheManWithoutFear - With the speed issue, I think that it would be cool to have like a meter that would slow down time like Max Payne. So (like the flash) you would actually be able to perceive things at high speeds as if they were occuring at normal speeds. The battles would be over quickly in terms of actual time passed in game. As you were fighting though you would be speeding up your perception, and pulling off DBZ esque moves while the background stands (basically) still. So your fight would be perceived by you as like four minutes but would be like thirty seconds real time. Having this meter fill slowly between battles and quickly if you are fighting and not using time slow would make for some really epic moments. Imagine A group of people being gunned down, but you can slow down time and hit the bullets out of the sky to save them.
As for the health thing, I think we def need a depowered superman at least in the beginning of the game. Like Lex hit him with some virus that produces red sun energy and it takes a while to deplete. Or if you are going with N52 Supes, then have him do one of his supernova blast things right at the beginning to stop some big problem and spend most of the rest of the game slowly earning levels toward regaining your full power.

@TheManWithoutFear - The speed, I think you do Bullet Time affect or something.

I think with a Superman game, people tend to compare it to the Batman games. This won't work, Superman isn't going to tackle minor crimes etc. Story will need to be king.

I would love sections to the game E.G. if fly high enough, after a brief loading cutscene you can be in orbit and the same if you fly out to the east or west of Metropolis.

Clark Kent is also a must, scenes using his investigation skills and uncovering a story would be great. I love a little graphic that tells you if someone will see you if change into Superman, heck if someone did maybe it creates a sub-story about how they are trying to blackmail you.

For me, the only real issue is the "Minor Crimes" element, those things Spider-Man and Arkham have. The individual stories can create enemies (When Zod appears you are on his ship either depowered, or fighting other Kryptonians or when tracking Metallo you enter Star Labs and fight various versions of Metallo Experiements and so forth) also if there are minor crimes, which I think there should be... have a line that states "A LexCorp lab has been raided and advanced tech is out there" so now these minor crimes the Criminals have sonic blasters, krptonite bullets etc.

For the stuff that just happens, here is how I would do it. Super Hearing obviously, but you should fly up into space, like Superman Returns the movie and can listen to all the issues, so in orbit is the map screen, and then you head to them.

Now instead of thugs beating on someone, Superman's issues have to be bigger. A train about to crash, an Earthquake and needs to support a building to let out civilians, a missile launch gone wrong and needs to divert it and so and and so on, you create enough of these to keep it interesting.

As for his invulnerability, for the game may need to tone it down. A bullet won't hurt him, but maybe a tank shell, a ballistic missile are powerful enough... I am one of those that think a Nuke would be fatal to Superman, despite the movie and DKR book.

@Knightrider - love your ideas. Only thing I would say is I would most definitely want small time crimes to occur and those will be the fun ones. Having fun with a group of average baddies but taking all their guns away in 5 seconds would be awesome. Superman doesn't just solve big crimes but ALL. We would need a world with TONS to do. Half the stuff you said I said in an aricle on here I wrote a few years back lol. Would need the going up to space and listening, picking with crime you tackle first.

Isn't there also that Telltale Batman game.Hopefully they make a Justice League kind of the the X-men Legends series.Green Lantern if the just improve the gameplay of Raise of the Manhunters with open world,a wide variety of constructs and true flight.Superman using Superman Return gameplay as a basis and build further from that.Aquaman and Wonderman could be great games.
