The Tomb Raider video games series has found great success with its rebooted take on Lara Croft that started back in 2013 with Tomb Raider. What was always planned to be a trilogy, the sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was released in 2015. The final chapter of the trilogy has been revealed, and it promises to be Lara's greatest challenge yet.

This time around, developing duties for Shadow of the Tomb Raider has gone to Eidos-Montreal who collaborated with Crystal Dynamics (worked on the previous two games). We see Lara Croft venture to South America in a race against time to stop the Mayan apocalypse from coming to fruition. If this cinematic trailer is anything to go by, it looks like the new team has certainly captured the spirit of the previous games. Take a look:

Here is a official synopsis along with features in the game:

Experience Lara Croft’s defining moment as she becomes the Tomb Raider. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara must master a deadly jungle, overcome terrifying tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, Lara will ultimately be forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be.

Key Features

  • Survive and Thrive In the Deadliest Place on Earth: Master an unforgiving jungle setting in order to survive. Explore underwater environments filled with crevasses and deep tunnel systems.
  • Become One With the Jungle: Outgunned and outnumbered, Lara must use the jungle to her advantage. Strike suddenly and disappear like a jaguar, use mud as camouflage, and instill fear in enemies to sow chaos.
  • Discover Dark and Brutal Tombs: Tombs are more terrifying than ever before, requiring advanced traversal techniques to reach them, and once inside they are filled with deadly puzzles.
  • Uncover Living History: Discover a hidden city and explore the biggest hub space ever found in a Tomb Raider game.

A schedule for upcoming events and the DLC was released in the form of a Mayan calendar:

The Ultimate Edition of the game has also been revealed, which has some nice goodies:

I certainly wouldn't mind getting my hands on that cool climbing axe bottle opener. The Ultimate Edition is no doubt for the most hardcore of Tomb Raider fans.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be released for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on September 14th.

That forest sequence was reminiscent of Predator. And even though that wasn’t game footage it should still play pretty close too.

Well done Eidos😁

No gameplay, no proper comment..In these days there's zero excuse not to release a little bit of gameplay, its not like the old days where the CG looked great and the game looked a dog..

@Mclane - Its an announcement trailer dude...most games do this to build hype. Its not about how the graphics look but a lot of shit changes within a game's development. They dont want to release gameplay when nothing's finalized.

The editing in that trailer is horrible. It cuts way too fast from shot to shot. Very frustrating to watch.
