The Wrap is reporting that German actor Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron; Penny Dreadful: City of Angels) has joined the cast of Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm's upcoming fifth installment in the long-running Indiana Jones franchise.

For the time being, further details on his key role are being kept under wraps, but he joins a cast headlined by Academy Award-nominee Harrison Ford (Blade Runner 2049Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) as the titular archeologist. Golden Globe-winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Solo: A Star Wars StoryFleabag) and BAFTA Film Award-nominee Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange; Hannibal) both also recently joined the cast in undisclosed roles.

2x Academy Award-nominee James Mangold (Logan; Ford v Ferrari) will be in the director's chair, taking the reins from 3x Academy Award-winner Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park; Ready Player One), who directed the previous four installments.

Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars StoryThe First Time) - the son of Raiders of the Lost Ark writer Lawrence Kasdan - was recently brought in to touch up the script, following original screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park; Spider-Man) exiting the project.

Spielberg will executive produce with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel serving as producers.

Indiana Jones 5 is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.

I'm very excited for this. Another, and presumably final, Indy flick, and with Mangold. I'm intrigued.

Do I need to see an 80 year old Harrison Ford hobbling around and pretending to beat up men less than half his age and action scenes that are nothing but cgi?

No thanks.

There are only three Indiana Jones movies and the series ended with him riding into the sunset in The LAST Crusade.

Yay! I'd do anything to see Indy find the fountain of youth, rebooting the character. That would be so cool! So it definitely will not happen 😫

@bobevanz - also the 4k bundle comes out in June! There's also a steelbook version but the designs are terrible, so traditional 4k box it is woo hoo! Maybe a trailer around then lol

Why why why straight trash Disney needs to focus on live action movies based off their animations classics. Not some old as Indiana Jones no cares to see. They are burnt out at Disney them old ass people need to die off.
