INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY Gets Digital Release Date; Bonus Features Include Making Of Documentary

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has officially announced that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which will be Harrison Ford's final adventure as the legendary archaeologist, will finally arrive on Digital HD on August 29!

There's no word on a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray launch date and/or a streaming date, so we'll likely have to wait another few weeks to get any news on that front, but we'd imagine the film will be available on those formats before the end of September, if not sooner.

As for any bonus content, the digital release will include an extensive five-part behind-the-scenes making-of documentary that should be plenty exciting for diehard fans of the franchise.

The James Mangold-directed swan song, which received a mostly warm reception from critics and audiences alike (69% on RT with an 88% audience score), was one of this summer's biggest underperformers, grossing just over $370.7 million on an estimated $300 million production budget, a far cry from its predecessor and not the performance Disney was ideally hoping for.

In addition to Ford as the titular archaeologist, the cast features Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Helena Shaw), Antonio Banderas (Renaldo), John Rhys-Davies (Sallah), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Mason), Thomas Kretschmann (Colonel Weber), Toby Jones (Basil Shaw), Boyd Holbrook (Klaber), Olivier Richters (Hauke), Ethann Isidore (Teddy), and Mads Mikkelsen (Dr. Voller)

Check out the list of Digital Bonus Features below:

The Making of Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny

  • Chapter 1 - Prologue – Harrison Ford leaps back into action as Indiana Jones! Journey to 1944 as this featurette reveals the filmmakers, characters, stunts, locations, and incredible visual effects that make up the thrilling opening of Dial of Destiny!
  • Chapter 2 - New York – Blast off to adventure as James Mangold showcases the re-creation of 1969 Manhattan for the Moon Parade chase. This featurette spotlights Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) as John Williams conducts his beautiful new theme for this compelling character.
  • Chapter 3 – Morocco – The man in the hat is back! Explore Morocco as this featurette breaks down the white-knuckle stunts of the medina tuk-tuk chase and hotel brawl. Meet Teddy (Ethann Isidore), Indy’s precocious new ally in the hunt for the dial!
  • Chapter 4 – Sicily – Meet Renaldo (Antonio Banderas) as he guides our heroes on a perilous underwater treasure hunt! Catch up with Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge on location in Sicily and explore the caverns, traps, and bugs surrounding Archimedes’ tomb!
  • Chapter 5 – Finale – This featurette breaks down the thrilling climax to the Indiana Jones series. Cast and filmmakers James Mangold, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, John Williams, Steven Spielberg, and Harrison Ford bid farewell to one of the greatest heroes of all time.

Harrison Ford returns to the role of the legendary hero archaeologist for this highly anticipated final installment of the iconic franchise-- a big, globe-trotting, rip-roaring cinematic adventure. Starring along with Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renée Wilson (“Black Panther”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Das Boot”), Toby Jones (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Olivier Richters (“Black Widow”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”), and Mads Mikkelsen (“Another Round”). Directed by James Mangold (“Ford v Ferrari,” “Logan”) and written by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth and David Koepp and James Mangold, based on characters created by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, has once again composed the score.

If they cared, the bonus features would include a 5 hour video essay of the entire cast and crew apologizing.

But then again, this is modern Hollywood. So it's more likely it'd be 5 hours of the cast and crew giving fans the middle finger talking about how it's our fault for not supporting the movie.

@Origame - I kept hearing people say the best part was Harrison's de-aging VFX. I honestly found it distracting af. It seems like they did a better job with the tech years ago. I gotta be honest. It doesn't feel good seeing so many awesome franchises fall off like this. I was really rooting for this to be a success

Maybe this could have worked if they had done it not long after Crystal Skull (while learning from what didnt work with that one) and done the 50’s b movie inspired trilogy like originally planned

But really 3 movies followed by a long break and then 1 movie followed by another long break

There isnt going to be all that much hype

Like really look at the 2000’s. Rambo, Live Free or die hard, Terminator 3, relatively successful. Actors came back for one last ride

Then Rambo Last Blood, A Good Day To Die Hard, 2 soft terminator reboots, that came out years later, they all failed

Only one that does well is Rocky/Creed. They dont act like Rocky is still young and can still do everything

I liked the movie overall honestly , 3rd best in the series imo.

It’s themes of aging and ultimately living in the present connected with me ultimately and the cast great.

It is missing that Spielberg energy , especially in the action scenes for the most part but I thought Mangold’s direction worked in this more subdued and sober story imo.

I personally also liked Helena and the contrast she brought to Indy ( she very clearly to me was meant to parallel how Indy used to be , especially in Temple of Doom and was essentially a mirror to him as a younger version of himself)

Anyway , it was a good sendoff imo to one of cinemas’s most iconic heroes…

I’m gonna miss ya Indy.

@TheVisionary25 - Agreed, I don't get all the hate, which Crystal Skull deservingly got. I'd rank them:
Last Crusade
Raiders
.
Dial
.
.
.
.
Temple Doom
Crystal Skull

@ridah - that would be probably be my ranking too though I don’t seem to dislike the latter 2 as much as you do…

They are my least favorites but I do find some some enjoyment in them.

The top 2 always changes for me depending on mood.

This movie should have been Indy and Short Round teaming up for one last adventure with Marion tagging along. 🤷‍♂️

In spite of this site turning more into a hate-fest, or who can talk bad about certain movies better than another person, I'd say, for what little my opinion is worth, that the movie was a lot better than I thought it would be. It was certainly better than the last outing but falls short of the original trilogy. Never felt that I wasted my money for seeing it in the theatres and will be buying the physical disc when it comes out to complete my Indy collection. It was a nice goodbye to the character. Not earth-shattering, or outstanding, but a nice goodbye.

Making of ? Sweet ! I hope it explains how they could run a franchise like Indiana Jones (and Star Wars) right to the [frick]ing ground, since that's the biggest achievement this movie has.

I heard there is an extra called: "How to destroy a franchise in three easy steps by Kathleen Kennedy."
