M:I-GP released in many countries on December 16, as one of them being India, I got to see the movie on the first day of release. I am a fan of the M:I series so when I say it wasn't that good, believe it.
The movie was all about the villain trying to start a nuclear war while Ethan (played by Tom Cruise) tries to stop it but the IMF has been disavowed so he has only prototype gadgets and no backup. Brandt (played by Jeremy Renner) was an IMF analyst but as indicated by the trailer that there is more to him than meets the eye but there really is int much more than some guilt towards something he thought happened (when he was an IMF agent) because of him which in reality didn't even happen. I actually thought the secret about him would be much more interesting so it disappointed me. They could have used his character much better.
Benji (played by Simon Pegg), who also appeared in M:I 3, is recently promoted from a technician to a field agent so he lacks experience. Jane (played by Paula Patton) was team leader in a mission where she lost her team mate (whose her lover) by an assassin named Sabine so she wants to take revenge. So to the main story, Ethan's team is after a guy code-named Cobalt (played by Michael Nyqvist). They don't know how he looks like so they infiltrate Kremlin archives to find files which could help to identify Cobalt but Ethan's team is framed by Cobalt as he blows the Kremlin. Russia blames America for this attack and Russian agent Sidirov blames Ethan to be the leader of this attack and that's how the IMF got disavowed.
The movie had some pretty good (but prototype) gadgets some of which gave hard time to the team but, nevertheless, were awesome. The one I liked the most was the gadget by which you could duplicate scenes a sheet to front of it and give a 3D look to the person standing in front so that the person thinks he sees it all while the action is going behind the sheet. Ya that one had some problems too like only one person can see it or the trick gets revealed. Just like that each gadget had some faults so they cant rely on gadgets entirely.
The film was so much talked about due to the (famous?) Burj Khalifa stunt scene, the scene was so good that the audience kept on clapping the whole scene but other than that i can't really remember any other action. Why you ask? The movie didn't had any real threat to Ethan. Ya, the nuclear war was a threat but there wasn't someone who could torture our hero or fight with him equally. The climax wasn't really a fight it was much of a catch the ball game as Ethan tries to get the Nuclear bomb launching device to abort the missile from hitting.
Now I saw this movie in India so its usual when the team goes to one of the biggest cities of the country, film city Mumbai, audience will get excited and when they saw Indian actor Anil Kapoor, they just got crazy, clapping and at the same time shouting out of joy, but I felt his role was not of much importance. He doesn't stay for much longer as expected.
Now you guys don't want me to reveal each bits and pieces, do you? I have already spoiled too much. And yeah Jeremy Renner did well as did Tom Cruise but the movie could have been better. I don't think it was better than M:I3 as the script was not perfect but it had its moments so that can be forgiven. Overall its worth a watch and if it has released in your area Go Watch It!
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol releases on December 21 in US.
