"Sugar & Spies" is a colorful, highly engaging tribute to James Bond but also the perfect wedding video.

Writer/director Christopher Tengco (C.E.O. of Autophile.Ph) has produced the ultimate wedding video. It has all the ingredients required for a proper celebration between bride and groom, including gun fights, kung fu, and chase scenes. Punches are regularly thrown, necks are broken, and blood spurts copiously. Admittedly, Sugar & Spies is not a conventional matrimonial memento. But for geeks fantasizing what their home movies would look like with a little dough and fancy cameras, Sugar & Spies is a colorful, highly engaging example of that vision.

Tengco plays Agent Zerozeroseven in this James Bond homage that is also equal parts Luc Besson and Mission: Impossible. However, looking beyond the most obvious cinematic influences is another inspiration at play, the wordless, often hilarious comic strip Spy vs. Spy created by Antonio Prohías for Mad magazine. Although there is dialogue in Sugar & Spies, there's only so much to unveil the plot. Tengco is aiming to capture the frenzied energy of Spy vs. Spy, and he does so with relentless enthusiasm. But there is a twist: the spy that Tengco is after, a rogue agent played by his lovely real wife Tin Tin, also happens to be a lover. It becomes awkward when he discovers she's his target, but love conquers all.

Crisp editing and stylish direction propel the film forward. Echoes of Besson and John Woo are reflected in the vibrant action sequences. Tengco and Tin Tin are an appealing pair to watch, and the affection between them leaps out from the screen. Sugar & Spies is pure fun, a labor of love that isn't afraid to let both the bullets and kisses fly.
