A Look At Disney's First Animated Marvel Movie BIG HERO 6

Even hardcore Marvel fans may not have heard of the Japanese superteam that will be featured in the first Disney/Marvel animated collaboration, but that's about to chance very soon! Check out some concept art and a video featuring footage of San Fransokyo after the jump.

Hero Complex have our very first glimpse at the first animated feature from Disney and Marvel, Big Hero 6. The series was created by Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau in 1998, and the animated adaptation will be directed by Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and due in 2014. The CG-animated movie will tell the story of a robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada and his robot companion BayMax, who join a team of superheroes in a high-tech city called San Fransokyo.

Well that bit looked pretty damn good. As a Marvel reader I recall the name but not the actual comic

So is this for theaters or straight to dvd?

i thought we might of got to see some of the heroes,i suppose it was alright but i expected more.

The animation looks ok. Can't really tell anything from the clip though.

Has anyone read the comic? And if so is it good?

I read the comics many years ago. Nothing to write home about, really. But the concept was one that would transfer well to an animated feature, so I'm looking forward to this. That little snippet was odd, though.

The animation of the city reminds me, stylistically, of the BioShock games.

@Nomis if you read the article over at Hero Complex, the director explained that he wanted to do an obscure story because he wants to be able to do what he wants with it without having fanboys start riots every time something isn't exactly the way it is in the comics (Iron Man 3 anyone?)

@Spideyman24, I think Disney is trying to do they're own thing and make films from properties that are separate from and won't clash with what Marvel is doing. They don't want to "repeat things or present different incarnations of the same characters. They don't want to make an animated version of a character that already has a live-action version.

They want to build a franchise around something they can be creative with and put their mark on it. They don't want a property that is associated with anything else or has fan anticipation. They want something that feels original, but actually has source material.

As for the X-Men, I don't believe they can make an animated film based on those characters. I think Fox owns the films rights, live-action or otherwise. Remember when Marvel/Lionsgate was making the Planet Hulk movie? They had to substitute Beta Ray Bill for Silver Surfer because they didn't have the rights to him. We know that Silver Surfer can be used in animation on TV due to his appearances in Super Hero Squad, so that leads me to believe Fox doesn't have the TV animation rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four, but they do have the film animation rights. The rights are for film in general, not just live-action.

I could see Disney taking on the more kid-friendly or family oriented franchises and making animated movies based on them. Building a shared universe within those films. Big Hero 6, Power Pack and Runaways.

I'd much rather have nothing from DC/WB then stuff like Green Lantern and Jonah Hex. If Man Of Steel does well and sucseeds, I say let them figure out things from there.

As for this teaser it did nothing for me.

Guys, just calm down. Disney is probably testing out where they can go with Marvel Animation projects before moving on too more well known characters and adaptions. think this is a smart move from them to do this, if this doesn't prove successful or if it does they would move on to something greater. Starting on a smaller scale is good for now.
