Brad Bird made one heck of a movie with the first Incredibles back in 2004. It's arguably one of the best, if not the best, Pixar movies ever created. So fast forward 14 years later, the family is back. And thankfully, better than ever.
First things first, you could tell from the promotional material that these characters didn't age a day. That's because this sequel takes place seconds right after the first one. In other words, it's just one continuous story between two great films.
The main conflict in this movie is that the superheros are technically still illegal through the public's perception. So when the Incredibles take on the Underminer, that's when the issues ensue.
However, a tech tycoon named Winston Deavor offers the chance to bring "supers" back to their legal days. In order for this happen though, he needs Elasti-Girl to be his franchise face. Which means Mr. Incredible has to be the stay-at-home dad for his power packed children.
Overall, the story is basically a reverse from the original. It's not entirely creative, but it works. The Parr family is still as entertaining as ever, in fact, maybe more so this time. Violet gets more of a chance to shine, Elasti-Girl is the biggest action star in this film, and Frozone is cooler than ever. Last but not least, Jack-Jack chews up every scene he's in. Without a doubt, he's the family weapon, and it's hilarious.
Incredibles 2 in general is just downright funny. Easily funnier than the first one, as the jokes just keep on coming. The animation is absolutely stunning as well. Considering it's 2018, you can tell the Pixar animators had much more to work with this time around, and it shows.
Now let's get to the villain. The Screenslaver, who hypnotizes people for their own benefit, was a pretty decent antagonist. Not quite as good as Syndrome in the first Incredibles, but good enough. Screenslaver had a solid motivation with some intimidating henchman, so the Parr family had their hands full for sure.
In conclusion, Incredibles 2 was just as good as the original. Maybe not as deep and gritty as it once was, but definitely funnier and more enjoyable. Incredibles 2 is a film for everyone at every age, so the kids and adults should love it the same. With the financial success this film is currently getting, I can't imagine a world where Incredibles 3 is out of the question. Will it take another 14 years for a third installment? Let's hope not.
Nonetheless, go out and see this super-duper family in theaters now.
