Brad Bird unveiled an early Thanksgiving gift for his fans today. The director announced via social media that he would be reuniting with his longtime composer Michael Giacchino on The Incredibles 2Giacchino scored the original Incredibles movie, and also worked with Bird on Ghost Protocol, Tomorrowland & Ratatouille - picking up a deserved Oscar nod for the latter.

Giachinno's services are in great demand these days, especially in the world of blockbuster movies. Over the last few years, he's produced stellar scores for Inside Out, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and (my personal favorite) JJ Abrams' Star Trek. Bird celebrated the announcement by releasing video evidence of the composer signing his contract in the tweet below:

Are you excited about Giacchino's return? Which of his scores is your favorite? Be sure to leave your thoughts and choices in the comments below!

The Incredibles 2 hits theatres June 21, 2019.

Still can't believe we have to wait 4 more years before we get Incredibles 2. I thought it was going to be released in 2016 or something?

I'm pretty choked. Pixar is mainly doing sequels. I'd rather we get new properties. I don't buy that it's tough to do or whatever.

It's wonderful (and frankly incredible) that John Williams is able to give us another STAR WARS score, but if he weren't able to, Michael Giacchino was likely going to take his place. I can't think of anyone worthier of taking on the challenge should Williams decide it's time to retire.

Fantastic composer. A personal favorite. His Super 8 score makes me weep. His work is beautiful! I'm surprised no one has mentioned Super 8 or his Roar Overture from Cloverfield. That was such a great classic monster movie theme, which only shows up during the end credits, so most people missed it.

His early work on MEDAL OF HONOR: ALLIED ASSAULT stood out for me. I vividly remember playing that video game, hearing the music, and imagining I was watching a big budget Spielberg movie scored by John Williams.

I later came to appreciate MG's work on ALIAS and LOST, and when I learned he was the same guy who did MoH a couple years before, it all clicked. Now he's an Oscar winner who has scored some of the biggest movies of the last decade: UP, M:I3 and 4, INCREDIBLES, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, RATATOUILLE, INSIDE OUT, STAR TREK 1 and 2. Even the movies that tanked had great scores to redeem them: JOHN CARTER, SUPER 8, TOMORROWLAND. What a great career he's had.

(Incidentally, it was Giacchino's work on MoH which influenced JJ Abrams to hire him for ALIAS. The rest is history.)

2019. 4 years away.

4.

YEARS.

Too far away to care.
