THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE Posters Feature Some Huge Video Game Easter Eggs Including MARIO KART

Excitement is definitely starting to build for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and three new posters have now been released that showcase Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach...and Mario Kart! Check them out here...

When it was first revealed that The Super Mario Bros. Movie would be an animated feature from the studio behind the hit Minions franchise, there was an awful lot of scepticism online. Since then, we've seen that - visually, at least - they're definitely not veering too far from the games, but the A-List voice cast continues to be an issue for some.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Chris Pratt's take on Mario has been predictably divisive, with many arguing he basically just sounds like...Chris Pratt.

While we'd argue that it's a casting decision that makes far more sense than Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, for example, it feels like the actor has been written off far too soon. After all, he's definitely added a little flair to the hero to bring his take in line with what we're used to hearing in the games.

Charlie Day is going to lend his voice to Luigi, while Anya Taylor-Joy is playing Princess Peach, and all three characters are given the spotlight on some new posters shared by The Super Mario Bros. Movie's Twitter account (via Toonado.com).

The first leans heavily into the franchise's video game roots, showcasing an obstacle course, or sorts, that should instantly bring back memories of those early games (or recent LEGO sets if you're not old enough to remember them). Luigi, meanwhile, looks to be in serious peril as the movie's likely damsel dude in distress, while Peace is living her best Mario Kart life on the Rainbow Road!

From Nintendo and Illumination comes a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film also stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to be released in theaters on April 7, 2023.

Hot take: Anya Taylor-Joy sounds even less like Peach than Pratt does like Mario.

I feel like they are doing way too much for the first film. The franchise should have went as such:

Super Marios Brothers Movie
Mario Kart
Mario Party
Super Smash Brothers

And they should have made other movies before Super Smash Brothers to make it the Avengers of animated movies. Such as Pokemon, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby, and maybe some other shorts for YouTube or something.

@SonOfAGif - a Super Smash Bros kovie does sound greay, but I don't mind them skipping Kart and Party. Think those could work just as well as small sections in this movie

OT:

Today's episode of the last of us is the first time I was feeling like I did when playing the game. The hopelessness, the bonding, the tension. My God was it good. I still disliked Kathleen actress. She's just not good and the zombie deaths were a little goofy, but great episode. I'm putting this on a last of us thread too lol

@MyCoolYoung - I probably won't get around to watching this until tomorrow evening, but it's good to know it's the same emotional ride like the game (like you expected last week I suppose).

Question though, was it worth keep watching or do you feel still like you're only watching this because you played the game?

@bkmeijer1 - I feel like I was watching because I played the game and because of the hype around it. The first episode was captivating, but after that, I was kind of indifferent.

The Last of us is my favorite game of all time which is funny because I generally dislike zombie media.

@MyCoolYoung - guess the power of The Last of Us (the game) is that it's a great story that just happens to be set in a world with zombies and is not a zombie-story per se.

As for the show, it to me already has shown it is worth the watch on it's own and not just because I played the game. Third episode proved this version of the story can only be told on tv imo.

I can totally understand it if you're not (yet) hooked though. Just wondering if that changed.

Idk why it bothers me so much but why are the piranha plants robots?

@EZBeast -

They are a part of a training course that is setup in the Mushroom Kingdom. It’s easy to assume that the real Piranha Plants are actually outside in the Overworld.

@EZBeast -

Its also why the bars of fire that you would see in Koopa’s Castle in the original Super Mario Bros are soft balls instead of actual fire on the training course.

I hope this goofy thing makes a lot of people happy.

But I don't do reviews any more, so I don't have to see it.

Win!

Ofcourse this movie also has Marion Kart and Luigi's Mansion. I really like to be proven wrong, but I do still feel like this is just another Illumination movie that draws on big names and cool bits for the trailers.

There sure is a lot of stuff in this movie. Hope they don't spread the IP out too thin from the start.

Not kidding, I'm legit expecting a Shigeru or Reggie Easter egg.
