Pokemon Go: Say Aloha to Alola With Niantic's Latest Update

To celebrate the announcement of Nintendo Switch titles Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu and Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, Niantic has added the first ever Alolan form to their popular mobile game, Pokemon Go.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Alolan Pokemon, they are alternate versions of classic Pokemon you know, with an alternate color scheme and battle type. For instance, an Alolan Vulpix would be blueish white with an Ice typing as opposed to the normal reddish orange Fire type she would be back home.

As evidenced by the banner art above, the first Alolan Pokemon that Niantic has released is Exeggutor, but with a bit of a joke attached. Unlike in Sun and Moon, when you catch one in Pokemon Go, Alolan Exeggutor is so tall that his face is always off screen.

It is also important to note that the typing of these Exeggutor is Dragon and Grass as opposed to the Grass and Psychic type combination that the original versions of the Pokemon flaunt. This is significant for two reasons: battle, and research. Dragon typing has been one of the hardest to find in the game regularly, not unlike Ghost typing, causing players to get clogged up in their research that might require them to catch some.

There are currently a total of 18 Kanto Region Alolan Forms, and while we don't know how soon the others will be released, or in what order, this is certain to fuel speculation of who your next catch could be. In the meantime, Alolan Exeggutor is currently available for capture for players all over the world, so get out there and get that dragon type and let us know in the comments what Alolan form you hope to see released next!
