ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Concept Art Give Scott Lang A New Helmet For A Scrapped Trip Into The Quantum Realm

Some very cool alternate designs for Scott Lang's helmet in Ant-Man and The Wasp have popped up online and these reveal that the hero was going to get a new look for a journey into the Quantum Realm...

Concept artists often start working on movies before scripts are finished and that means they get to work on scenes which don't necessarily make it into the final cut. Now, some pieces depicting Scott Lang in a brand new helmet - four of them to be precise - which he would have used for a scrapped trip into the Quantum Realm (he does travel there in the mid-credits scene but in regular Ant-Man suit).

This mask was no doubt meant to homage the astronaut-style suit Hank Pym wears when he goes to find Janet Van Dyne and it's interesting to see that it would have essentially been contained within his regular mask. Apparently, the idea was to make us realise Hank had built those safeguards in for Scott. It's a very cool concept and while not entirely necessary, it would have looked very cool on screen.

What do you guys think of these alternate masks for Scott? Do you think he should have had a new look for his trip into the Quantum Realm? As always, share your thoughts with us in the usual place.

Meh, I still like the OG Ant-Man helmet.

@L0RDbuckethead - it's weird that in ant man they act like it was the original suit when it's definitely a new one that he "lost" in civil war

Also, I think the Civil War helmet looked a little odd but only because it blended into the airport surroundings a lot due to it's brighter / greyer sheen

@ftf530 - Yeah the shininess was a bit off-putting.

@ftf530 - they said it was a new one that he lost, im guessing the CW suit is the first able to grow that large in a stable state they used the original to track Janet’s location

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Are you sure?

I've seen it three times and never caught any dialogue other than "that suit was my life's work!" and constant implications that he didn't make multiple suits.

Granted, I've never specifically worried about it while watching it, so I easily could have missed it

@ftf530 - we’ll after they visit Goliath Scott reveals he kept the CW suit and they use that to track Janet not the original my bad, and it was stated that Janet and Scott were training and developing together so during that time is when Scott got the new suit but the the suit he wears the whole movie is a spare suit hank developed but wasn’t finished with yet that’s why it’s on the fritz

@ShimmyShimmyYA - that doesn't explain where the ant man 1 suit went though - which is different from both the civil war suit and the prototype suit.

@ftf530 - you're right. i'm just gonna assume they either scrapped it, or used it as the base for the new suit technology wise cause the suit is just leather with gadgets attached so they could easily removed everything

@ShimmyShimmyYA - I'll accept the they used it as a base explanation - I just wish they could have been more clear on it, you know?

@ShimmyShimmyYA - like, in a world this big, with so little per year screentime and a cast of hundreds that we all want updates on, there's a lot that I'm willing to accept via quick expositional dialogue - just really wish they could have mentioned it.

Also, while it helped this movie's plot - erm, exist - I am really having trouble thinking about why they sidelined wasp in Civil War now.

@ftf530 - from what I could tell Scott never told them he was going to help in CW he did it on his own, they probably found out through the news. Cause there’s that scene when he says to wasp if I asked you to come would you have?

@ShimmyShimmyYA - you're right!

It's just an odd choice to me looking back. She was already more prepared. They were together, and it would have taken him what, thirty seconds of Hawkeye's time to call her up?

I think it came down to it being a production decision to include no other members of the ant family - but it's stood out to me for awhile now.

It's got a bit of an Ultron-y look to it. I don't particularly like it, but I appreciate their willingness to try different things.
