DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Almost Featured The Wasp As A Member Of The Illuminati... Who Was "Smushed" By Wanda!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has revealed that The Wasp was originally going to be introduced as a member of The Illuminati... before being "smushed" by Wanda!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced a new group of Multiversal "heroes" known as The Illuminati, and while they didn't stick around for very long thanks to the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), they certainly made an impression.

The line-up was comprised of Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart), and sole survivor Master Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). We know that other members were considered at various points during the project's development, and writer Michael Waldon has now added another early possibility to the list.

During the audio commentary on the digital release of Sam Raimi's sequel, Waldron spoke about his decision to utilize The Illuminati in the second act ("I had no idea where the hell I was going, and I just thought, 'Well, why don't I take a swing and drop the Illuminati in there?'"), and revealed that Hope Van Dyne, aka The Wasp, was part of an earlier incarnation of the team.

"Yeah, I think I watched Aliens and was just thinking about the way those Marines get massacred, and, yeah, I was glad it worked. I think originally, the Wasp was in a version of the Illuminati, and the Wasp shrunk down and flew at Wanda, and [Wanda] just clapped her hands and just smushed the Wasp in the first draft."

Not the most noble end for the hero, but then none of the Illuminati's deaths were treated in a particularly respectful manner in the movie! Rumors persist that other alternate cameos were actually shot, but so far all we've seen from the deleted/extended scenes is more Pizza Poppa.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now available to stream on Disney+.

I would’ve taken that as a warning shot from Disney

I can see why it was removed. And not because of it being brutal. It just doesn't seem interesting for a multiverse team.

@MUTO123 - Is there a close up low shot of Wanada walking? Because it can be done if so lol

@kazuma - I’m rewatching it right now, funny enough. I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

I just rewatched it, the horror vibes are less apparent at home and even though I wouldn't change my rating, I enjoyed it more at home.

It's cool to hear Sam had that much power over the script and what was going to happen. To have the illuminati be of his own volition has to shut some people up

Interesting to hear Rami refer to Aliens as inspiration with how Wanda would react to the Illuminati.

Would have been a waste. Like the rest of them.

I just watched the film tonight for the first time and I really enjoyed it. They did great with America Chavez and I'm excited to see where she pops up again. And I'm really curious to see where they may go with alternate versions of the Illuminati for the main MCU. And I especially loved the dead Strange scene. Scarlett Witch is scary powerful now and I would imagine she's going to be a decider whatever next big battle is going to be.

Marvel needs to do more with Hope Van Dyne while they still have her around. She should be a big player i think. I've been saying this for ages but i want her to lead the next iteration of the Avengers.

I'll watch this one more time for the commentary, but this is as good as Dark World once you get rid of the ruby colored glasses
