ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: Kevin Feige Talks About Potential Future Plans For [SPOILER] In The MCU

Ant-Man and the Wasp featured the MCU debut of [SPOILER]. The film ended on a positive note for this character, and according to Kevin Feige, keeping him/her around was intentional. Spoilers ahead...

Ant-Man and the Wasp's main antagonist was Ava Starr, aka Ghost, played by Hannah John-Kamen in the character's MCU debut. While Ghost was an adversary to the team for much of the film, she wasn't truly a villain and had left her dastardly ways behind after Janet van Dyne helped stabilize her quantum energy issues.

Ghost was fairly well received by most viewers, with people wishing there were more scenes involving her. With Ghost survivng the events of the film and sticking around, fans have begun to wonder whether Ava Starr will reapear in phase 4 of the MCU. The mid-credits scene indicates that Ghost is possibly working with Scott and the van Dynes, and Scott is sent into the quantum realm to retrieve healing particles for his new phasing friend.

When asked by Birth.Movies.Death about whether there may be a role for Ghost in the future of the MCU, Kevin Feige had the following to say:

It varies. In this case, the story was always – spoiler! – to keep her around. This was not the story of defeating a villain and everybody cheering. This is a different kind of villain story. When and where – in the tag, he mentions 'his new Ghost friend' – is something we’ll see. But there’s nothing better than struggling over the decision about what characters to bring into a movie, casting those characters, writing and putting them together in a way that works in the movie, and then have audiences go 'we love them, when are we going to see them again?' Shuri for sure is a great example of that. So with Ghost it is, step one: complete. As for step two, we’ll see where we go with that.

It certainly seems like Feige is interested in Ghost appearing again in a future MCU installment. A third Ant-Man film seems like the most likely place for Ava Starr to reappear, especially if her father is being set up as the villainous Egghead. However, Ghost could also be used to introduce an MCU team of reformed villains in a potential Thunderbolts film, something that Hannah John-Kamen herself has expressed interested in.

Did you enjoy Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp? Would you be excited to see Ghost appear in a future MCU film? Be sure to share your thoughts below!

@HeavyMetal4Life - Let's all be honest here! They are only keeping Ghost to make an all female Avengers film with Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Shuri, Okoye, and Valkyrie.

They have my money as long as they don't demean the male characters too much.

@mastakilla39 - Don't forget Wasp...

I'm all down for that line-up. Would love to see some TV characters like Quake and Mockingbird show up too.

I liked ghost for certain reasons. Yes I’m going to say Ghost was a badass and second Ghost was a different type of antagonist (not villain). I learned in 9th grade that antagonist is not always mean a villain and protagonist is not always a hero. I sympathized with her because her goal was to heal herself and that is not something we have seen before in the MCU. I’ve seen people try to shit on the character because she was not a straight up punching bag and your usual “ I want to destroy the world” villain. Antman and the wasp does not have villains but it has antagonists and that’s what makes the movie special and stand out for me. I look forward to seeing Hannah John Kamen reprise the role in the future.

Not a standout to me but definitely someone I’m interested in seeing more of. Cool character with a nice design and interesting power set

I thought she made an impression in very little screentime, and her powers were really cool to see, so I would love to see her pop up again. I still think Marvel should do Thunderbolts in spite of Suicide Squad. And not because I personally found the first Suicide Squad to be bad(which I do, and genuinely hope the sequel is good) but because using the scrap characters from other MCU films and making an entire ensemble of them, and finding ways to flesh them out and provide a new perspective just sounds so exciting on a creative level, and it would richen the characters and the universe even further.

Just throw around Abomination, Ghost, Ross, possibly Moonstone if we ever get her in a Captain Marvel sequel, maybe even Justin Hammer. Lots of characters they could do.

Ghost was one of the biggest highlights of the movie for me. There’s so many places you can take the character and with her fate up in the air after the conclusion of the movie I’d love to see her appear elsewhere. There’s potential for her to become one of the most interesting characters in the MCU if she’s done right. I think Ant-Man 3 is a good place to see her, but I really want her in a Thunderbolts movie so she can get more focus and development.

Hmm.. with her powers, she could be a possible Vision replacement. Assuming that Vizh is actually permanently gone. The way they've retconned things in the MCU, no mind gem = no Vision.

@HeavyMetal4Life - or the Young Avengers version - I can see that happening because they seem to be doing a long term setup for that

@knomad - Vision isn't gone.

Let's put aside aspect the fact that time travel/ reality warping retains the events of IW in A4.

Even with Vision (the mind and personality) destroyed wiht he loss of the mindstone. The body can be rebuilt; he is in Wakanda which specialises in vibranium. Going in from there he could be kept as an emotionless shell or be fitted wiht and AI personality.

@StormXmen123 - I got the impression that Shuri did something with the Vision’s mind right before he got off the table to fight in the finale that might come into play later, but either way I suspect that we’ll see him again.
