RUMOR: ANT-MAN AND THE WASP's Opening Scene Did Not Go Over Very Well With Test Audiences

Every time a movie gets a test screening these days, it seems like rumors about the film either being great or terrible hit the internet shortly afterward. The latest movie to get this treatment is Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp, which hits theatres this July.

Reports from Italian site Badtaste say that a test audience reacted poorly to the opening scene of the movie, rumored to be an action sequence set in South America. While this is not confirmed, it seems to match up with reports from last week that said the movie's opening scene was being reshot in Los Angeles with the crew working on Captain Marvel.

There has been some confusion about where Ant-Man and the Wasp
fits into the MCU timeline since this month's Avengers: Infinity War looks like it will bring about some world-changing consequences. While this confusion should be cleared up before the movie's release, it still makes Ant-Man and the Wasp one of this summer's more forgotten blockbusters.

If there are any significant problems with the movie, the fact that Avengers is only a few weeks away might provide a much-needed distraction from behind the scenes drama. But like with any rumors borne out of test screenings, this should probably be taken with a grain of salt. Considering how the first Ant-Man became a hit despite tons of behind the scenes changes, the sequel should be just fine.

@LEVITIKUZ - The thing about Antman is that you can't see him unless you're really close to him

How bad could an action sequence in South America be to warrant reshoots?

Ok, can we just stop with these test screening issue rumors? Its tiresome and just a repeated joke at this point. What does it even matter what test audiences thought? They have a history of poor calls that make their movies worse.

@Origame - Test audiences is very important to films

For example; Star Wars had a terrible TERRIBLE reception at first cut

This was because of the editing in the film which would have scenes of Luke living everyday life before we are introduced to him via the droid purchase, had the Jabba scene (which is still unneeded & pointless George), & in the climax, the Death Star was just there. It didn’t do anything. It wasn’t attacking the rebel base at all. There was no drama or tension

If you go back; all the Death Star scene with attacking the rebel base are shown through voice over “the rebel base is approach in t minus 10 minutes” or on the screen. I mean Leia & everyone on the base never looks worried once that any minute the Death Star will blow them up

All of these things were changed thanks to Lucas’s ex-wife who even though of the Death Star going after the rebel base & her editing for Star Wars won her an Oscar for best editing
