ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Producer Says A YOUNG AVENGERS Project ISN'T In The Works At Marvel Studios

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania producer Stephen Broussard has confirmed that a Young Avengers project isn't currently in the works, but strongly hints at what comes next for Earth's Mightiest Heroes...

Much of Phase 4 was devoted to introducing a new generation of characters, including heroes like Kate Bishop, Ironheart, Skaar, and America Chavez. Many fans believe Marvel Studios is laying the groundwork for the Young Avengers to assemble, but as more time passes, the older the actors playing them get!

It's looking increasingly unlikely that the MCU will introduce this team, and that's likely because Marvel Studios is preparing for the future. Actors such as Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Mackie can't play their respective superheroes forever, so by introducing legacy characters, the MCU can continue with these fresh faces for years to come.

During a recent interview with Inverse, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania producer Stephen Broussard confirmed that a Young Avengers movie is not in the works at Marvel Studios. He did, however, reiterate that "a lot of Phase Four was about introducing the next generation and introducing new characters."

"I think it's very germane to the Ant-Man film because it's a generational film," he added, referring to Cassie Lang becoming a superhero. "The Ant-Man mantle gets passed down from Hank to Scott and now essentially to Cassie, who's almost more of like the new Ant-Man, even though she doesn't go by such, more so than the new Wasp."

Broussard concluded by strongly hinting that these young heroes will one day form a new roster of Avengers (minus the "Young"), adding: "People like [Cassie and Kate Bishop], who have inherited the mantle, and keeping to fight the fight, and make the world a better place."

Marvel Studios doesn't appear to be interested in recasting characters, so a couple of Phases from now, the MCU promises to look very different, especially with the X-Men and Fantastic Four taking centre stage!

What do you guys think of these plans for the MCU moving forward? Let us know in the comments section.

It might not be in the works right now, but most of the seeds have been planted to make it happen.

@slickrickdesigns - Yeah, totally.

If the stories are good I'm up for it. Character wise Kate Bishop is annoying and Riri is kinda too much stoic (so far) but I'll say the rest is cool imo.

@slickrickdesigns - I think he's hinting that it will happen, but they won't be called "Young" Avengers. Just Avengers. Which makes a lot of sense since most of them won't actually be young anymore when Kang Dynasty comes around.

@slickrickdesigns - sure, but unless they recast the actors will be older than the original avengers by the time they do.

Good. We don’t need a “Young Avengers”

It's because they're not doing the Young Avengers, they're just THE new Avengers. They've introduced practically every member at this point, but in the comics they're never allowed to grow up and fully replace each hero, but in the MCU they are.

There's several characters who have been introduced that are in their 20's, Kate Bishop is around the same age as Yelena and Riri (it seems as if Cassie is around this age too). Peter would be slightly younger than Kate. Ms. Marvel is slightly younger than him, but is around the same age as America Chavez, and Elijah Bradley. Then you have the youngest, which would be between the twins, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, who are rumored to be aging up in Agatha - and a special mention for Kid Loki in LOKI, but if they're not doing Young Avengers, they may not pull on that thread. And not even all of these characters are part of the Young Avengers team.

Honestly, it's a neat idea to actually let characters age out and be totally replaced. I think we've all accepted the MCU as totally its OWN thing and doesn't really adapt storylines and characters directly. But I have my doubts the MCU will last another ten years.

@KelvTwelve - I'm all for this idea. I don't like recasting unless an actor is difficult (Ed Norton, Terence Howard). There's so many characters at their disposal, just introduce a new one if an old character is acting up. The Ezra shit would never happen in the marvel cinematic universe. They would just pick a different flash since there's like a dozen of them anyway

@KelvTwelve - I agree, the aging out approach could be really cool, especially with so many amazing young actors/characters waiting in the wings. With FF and X-Men, there's totally enough juice for the next 10 years

@KelvTwelve @Vigor @BlueSkies33 - Agreed. Plus, let's not forget that with Disney's de-aging technology being what it is these days they can bring back pretty much ANY of the older characters whenever they want, as long as they're not dead, and even that isn't too much of a problem as long as the Multiverse is still a thing. So why recast then? The comics have always had various versions of the same type of characters (i.e. the speedsters, the magicians, the tech geniuses, etc.) and Marvel has shown time and time again that they're REALLY good at casting, so let them keep doing what they're doing.

I like it but at the current moment, other than she hulk and Thors daughter, these new Avengers are lesser powered versions than the originals. They have to prove themselves. Let me preface this by saying I love all these characters, but yelena, Kate bishop, skaar, Ms. MARVEL, and Riri are all less capable versions than their predecessors.

I guess we will see in Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars how they progress and prove themselves

@Vigor - I think you gotta remember they're all in their infancy as characters. We meet Hawkeye as a seasoned veteran. Kate gets pretty close at the end of Hawkeye, but she still has a few battles to go before she gets there. I actually think Yelena is on par with Natasha (at least in Iron Man 2) at this point, and clearly more powerful than Kate, enough to take on Clint. I feel like Ms. Marvel and Riri are very different from their predecessors and can't be compared (especially Ms. Marvel, different power set entirely), and Riri is intelligent enough to be considered a central intelligence threat, but is inexperienced. She's honestly as intelligent (if not more), but doesn't have the same resources that Tony had when he started in Iron Man 1. I'd also argue that, while I don't love Shuri being the new Black Panther, she's definitely proven her capability by taking down and sparing Namor.

It'll take awhile for them to get to legend status, but no more than it took the majority of the original characters. Even Shang-Chi will have to learn how to use the ten rings to their fullest potential.

@Vigor - I think Yelena will actually be a double agent against the thunderbolts and be A SPY like her sister was supposed to be and never was. So I think Yelena is gonna earn that mantle over Nat.

Can't wait! Here's my MCU dream team in 10 years:

Kate Bishop and the new Black Widow - Hailee and Florence, bantering
New Black Paneer - nuff said
Billy and Teddy - C'mon Marvel, stop looking at the foreign box office and make this happen
Ms. Marvel - Who would be called Captain Marvel then and kicking butt with her purple crystal stuff
White Tiger - Show Jenny Ortega the money
Songbird - Sadie Sink, love this rumor
Nova - Sam Alexander, woot!
And last but definitely not least ...
Miles Morales

Did I miss anyone?

As much as I want to see it, I worry that Marvel is concerned about diluting their biggest name franchise. I think it would be fine but what do I know? As long as they don't get relegated to one forced team up scene in Secret Wars or something..
IronDean2099

@IronDean2099 - actually thinking about it, they could be a focal point of Kang Dynasty if they wanted to adapt that first run into part of a larger story. Have the movie open with young Kang showing up. Maybe Kate Bishop and some of the others want to help him, but Cassie knows the future version and knows what else could be coming after him.

The Ant-Man mantle gets passed down from Hank to Scott and now essentially to Cassie ...."

So we're getting a female Ant-Man to complement our Phase 4-feminized Loki, Thor, Cap, Iron Man, Black Panther and Hawkeye. Very creative and original.

This might work as a Dsiney + series but they cant even sustain their own comic. Other than die hards, no one cares about these characters. You are going to have them be the main Avengers team? Why so no one will go see the movie? Disney is about money, they just pretend to be about the other stuff.

Once they get to a certain phase, they will just reboot the entire thing.

@AvalonX - perhaps because people prefer inclusiveness. And to make money as a company, you have to veer towards societal norms.

My favorite part of this article is where the producer is never quoted saying that there is no Young Avengers heading down the pipe line abd says that the mantle has been passed to younger generations in phase 4.

Another female replacing a male hero? That's not gonna go over well with the M-SHE-U folk.

Kidding aside, I think a Young Avengers is inevitable. Could see it be the first team-up of Phase 7.
